I *heart* Ciputra The one area in Hanoi that is most likely to have negative judgements made about it (by people who do not actually live there) is Ciputra, Tay Ho District. This group is for those who love Ciputra as well as other areas of Hanoi - and are not afraid to say it! It's for those who know the "essence" that is Ciputra - that it is what is on the inside that counts! Ciputurians love the green areas, fresher air, reduced traffic, and to stroll on level roads without twisting an ankle. This is the group who knows that, contrary to popular belief, the neighbours living on each side, behind and in front who look Vietnamese, are in fact Vietnamese, and not foreigners in disguise. We care not for those who intone their limited prescription for an authentic experience of life lived in Hanoi! "I *heart* Ciputra" group is for those who believe that every visitor and Hanoian is entitled to their own version of a "genuine experience" in Vietnam. And that genuine experience may be living in and loving Ciputra. 12
Almosting It An online literary magazine designed and run by three New Hanoians that is dedicated to exhibiting and discussing original writing, photography, and video from contributors all over the world. From the About section of the website: "We are in Hanoi, Vietnam and this is where our work begins. Where our parents’ generation got soggy and high and flaked out until they woke up in a Middle Eastern desert. We have just inherited our chunk of history and this is the first step we’ve made toward shaping it: Getting gone. This journal and website–the fiction, poetry, video, and essays–are the record of our witness. The future, or present, is free to do with this what they like–learn from it, or present it as evidence at our trial. Regardless, like our man Kilgore Trout said, 'You were sick, but now you are well again. And there’s work to be done.'" Bia Hoi Appreciation Society This is the group for those who consider bia hoi something more than a cheap alternative. Sure, the quality of drink can vary, but the essence of the bia hoi experience is rooted in far more than that gold-ish fluid sloshing 'round in cracked glasses. It is the clamor of voices at any hour...the bending support of the plastic chair...the steaming plates of people's fare...and the familiarity of a makeshift stall. It is Hanoian ubiquity. Those who feel likewise, join us. 109

Dim Sum (yum cha) saved my life It could be a little far fetched to say that dim sum aka yum cha or perhaps plain old dumplings saved my life. But i'm not sure what sort of person i would be without their existence (less dumplified perhaps). Given their scarcity in this town i thought like minded dumpling folk could gather as one in some form of homage to the dumpling. I'm not sure what this would entail, as kneeling before a dumpling and sipping tea, although rather comical, may lead to unwanted attention. Perhaps we could just scrape together our dong and occasionally frequent those all you can eat weekend buffets. Any other suggestions most welcome. 26
Drumming Circle Hi there, This is Malcolm from the Van Ho Ba. A few people have expressed an interest in forming a regular drumming circle or doing a drumming workshop. Let's use this group to discuss possible times, venues, rhythms, and all things drum. 16
