Cockfighting
I know the hippies and animal lovers are going to hate this question, but I was wondering if anyone knew of a place to see cockfighting here in Hanoi? I know it takes place and found a few articles online, but apparently it has to be low key. This is because the government has an issue with gambling that inevitably accompanies the cockfighting, not the cockfighting itself. So has anyone on here seen a cockfight, or know where one could see one in Hanoi?

Seeking updated tech info re iPhone / 3G. Seems to be some great minds in Hanoi that would know. What is the difference between an International iPhone that can be purchased here vs. getting a new 3Gs in US? Do we have 3G yet in VN? Would a new 3Gs from US require the unlocking process? (Buying a new phone and pulling its guts out is a headscratcher to me.) No one at D-Trends (Nguyen Du) could give me a straight answer. Thanks for yout time in response.
Severance grant
As far as I can see this question has not been asked before. After three years in Hanoi we will be leaving in June and I would like to know what the norm is regarding severance grants for house staff. I am sure that the labour law provides you with a formular with which to calculate the grant but it often tends to be the absolute minimum and not what is common practice. Any take on this?

where to go for a week or so in April/May
The gf has decided she wants to vacate VN for a week or so around the 4-day holiday at the end of April. There is NOT an unlimited budget, so price is very much a focus. Obviously, the girl wants cool shopping and, less obviously, the guy wants nature and museums. He immediately thought about Borneo, but it ruins the budget, so she jumped on the idea of KL. We are both burned out on Thailand. He thinks he'd love Laos but it ain't cheap. How about a few quick suggestions?

Hi, My Mother (aged 79) is arriving from Australia in two weeks to live with us for 6 months. Considering her age; she is active, loves walking and attends a gym back home 3 times a week. Her interests are painting, movies and singing. Could anyone please suggest some groups; community groups; singing groups; NGO's that she could join? We live in Tay Ho but her mode of transport will be a taxi. Thanks!
Hanoi Dragons
Hanoi Dragons are, or were, a Rugby team playing out of Hanoi that I had heard of before I moved to this neck of the woods. I have tried to contact them with no luck. Bizarre encounters with beggars
Today when I was eating lunch in KFC (an occasional guilty pleasure), a rather chubby guy came up to me and my partner's table dressed in a clean sports tracksuit and trainers - not scruffy or undernourished-looking at all - and intimated to me that he was both deaf and dumb. Looking for a wedding venue
I'm getting married in late October in Hanoi. I'm looking for a decent venue for an evening do. Ideally it would be somewhere where we can do our own catering. We just want a bar, and also want somewhere where we can have loud music and dancing. Would like it to be central Hanoi. A restaurant or hotel would be one option but is there anywhere more creative than that? Somewhere cost effective and easily reached that could hold 100 people. Outside would be great.
