April Winners and May Fun

Greetings New Hanoians! Welcome back from your brief holidays (those who were lucky enough to have one). April has come and gone, but not without some fantastic developments for the TNH community. Another successful Meet Up went down at Funky Buddha with just over 200 of you showing up. Another is all set for May 24th (See Below) that promises to surpass anything we've put together yet. We also had a stellar month of activity on the "Groups" pages here on the site with several groups such as Hanoi Danceteria, Sunday Night Dancing and Drumming, and the Music Club (AKA CD Exchange Club) all bringing together New Hanoians to enjoy some shared interests. Don't forget to check the the groups pages to see what's being set up and don't be shy about starting up your own group if what you're looking for isn't there. Groups like these are what help keep Hanoi a happening place to be. Speaking of happening, next Saturday is the Big Day Out at the American Club. Yes, May 10th will be offering us another day of live music and family friendly events. For children, there will be a jumping castle, face painting and many games, and for the adults, fabulous wine, food and cold beer plus live music in the evening and not forgetting plenty of chances to win prizes. Advance tickets (100,000VND) can be purchased from AusCham, or one can get tickets at the gate (150,000VND). If you're looking for another excuse to spend all day running around on the grass at the American Club, this is it. From the near future, we turn back to the recent past. The prizes up for grabs must have made quite an impression. It's always difficult to select winners for our user contribution prizes, but the competition for this month was particularly fierce. In the end, it could only go to two... Our first winner no stranger to these sorts of announcements, but he's typically known for winning due to the impressiveness of a single review. He may not write as many as some of the members we've had, but few people write more engaging reviews. In this case, he brought his usual wit to bear on an absolute barrage of posts. For that, Snellopy is going to have his New Hanoian username immortalized through drink. Lo Lo Bar will be hosting he and a friend as they work their way through hours of liquid combinations until they find that ideal mix that will come always to be known in Lo Lo as the "Snellopy". And don't think that the honor will be lost on the regulars of the bar. Lo Lo is the sort of cozy neighborhood bar where such feats find a proper audience. Its steady afterwork crowds can now be sure to find a Snellopy staring back at them from the menu, though none of us are quite sure just what a Snellopy will turn out to be. For our second winner of the month, we have a newcomer. Well, she's a newcomer to the winner's circle. She's certainly no newcomer to Hanoi. To celebrate simsam's arrivial on the TNH reviewing scene, she's going to get to take out three of her friends for a night of fine dining at the HanoiHanoi Cafe & Restaurant. The foursome will march into this deceptively large space just down the street from Hoan Kiem on Trang Tien street, and seat themselves to a complimentary dinner for four with a bottle of wine. They'll have their choice from among the many Vietnamese and European dinner options, while doing so amidst the sort of elegance that finer Hanoi establishments like HanoiHanoi Cafe & Restaurant are quickly becoming known for. If you're friends with simsam and want in on an evening like that, I'd say it's time to start laying on the flattery. Her reviewing efforts have put her in the driver's seat. Two worthy winners. We'll be back in a couple weeks with some more prizes up for grabs in the month of May, so if you didn't win this time, keep those contributions coming. The whole community appreciates them, and one of these months you'll be hearing your named called as well. In the meantime, you can get plenty of reward from the coming May 24th meet up. In less than three week from today, we'll be heading for the end of Hoang Hoa Tham street to Noc Bar - La Scala. On the 19th floor of an apartment building overlooking West Lake and much of Hanoi, we'll have a huge space at our disposal. There will be the usual free drinks from 8pm~11pm for all site members, so get all your friends and co-workers signed up for the big night. In addition to the free booze, expect a few more surprises as the day approaches. We'll be sure to pass the news on to you. See you all at Noc Bar - La Scala, The Staff of the New Hanoian
