Back from Holiday...

Now that everybody is back from their respective holidays, it's time to name the winners of last month's New Hanoian contribution prizes. Like most months, there were plenty of new voices on the site. However, this month was dominated by the resurgence of a couple veteran site users. When the prizes at stake last month were announced, cheapie let it be known that he was making the push. Already our most active user with more than seventy reviews written, twenty-seven answers offered, and nearly 200 props given from appreciative users, cheapie went on a tear that distanced himself from the competition for the month of August. Just as he was seeking to do, he will be enjoying a night of fine drink at Tipsy Ultra Lounge. He and five friends will be treated to a round of cocktails around the second floor bar, before being escorted to the upstairs V.I.P. section for their choice of Remy Martin VSOP, Martell 12yrs, or Absolut Vodka. It will be a night of style in the newest nightlife destination in Hanoi. Second up on our honor roll call is another former winner of these monthly prizes. Away for a spell for a bit of traveling, we hadn't heard from hanoiRob for quite some time. That all changed in August. We are again being treated to his long and witty posts about the best and worst Hanoi has to offer. To reward these great contributions, we're sending him and three friends to Ren for a round of their lunch set menus. Long a favorite of the Japanese expat community (good luck finding a table on a weekend!), hanoiRob will get a chance to tell the rest of us what makes this place tick. Given his past efforts, I'm sure we'll all come away knowing quite a bit more about Ren and the renowned work they do. Finally, there is one newcomer to the winner's circle. Of the many new reviewers who introduced themselves to us this month, one stood out for the finely crafted posts he always infused with a rye sense of humor. Wobegon, a man of words, will be treated to a mini-shopping spree in Hanoi's top source of the written word in the English language...the Bookworm. Whether you're looking for fiction or non-fiction, new or second hand books, the Bookworm is where we all head. While Wobegon is there, he can also check out the rotating exhibitions located on the first floor, and get the word on up coming events hosted by the Bookworm crew. While they are undoubtedly a fine bookstore, they are much more these days...turning themselves into an all around culture center. Surely a man of Wobegon's erudition will be appreciated there. And there we have it...another month of winners. All of you who joined recently and would like to see yourself in the winner circle, start contributing. Writing reviews is always appreciated, but there are other ways to get involved and recognized. Keep an eye out for people needing advice on Ask A New Hanoian. If you've got a favorite spot that you haven't seen on the site, don't be shy about entering it. And, if nothing else, why not come out next week and drink some free beer, simply because you're a member of this community? That right, it's time for another www.newhanoian.com meet up.
