Food is cheap here and reasonably tasty and it does seem to attract lots of tourists as of late. Not sure why, has someone gone and put it into the Lonely Planet or Guide du Routard or something? Anyway this was the other place that messed up my "top of the range" burger. As this was the first place I visited, I did ask for the egg and bacon to be added and sure enough, it came back with those inside. I have been here far too many times to mention and it always leaves me feeling like I have had average food but just not enough of it. I always seemed to forget the name of the place! BTW, I am not a fan of the fried spring rolls. Where is that king of spring roll hiding?

On a positive note the burger was actually very tasty (a wee bit small for people with an appetite) but it was not what I ordered. I wanted the Aussie burger with all the bells and whistles and simply got a plain cheeseburger. I must be jinxed or something because this is the second night in a row this has happened (at different establishments, I might add.) Anyway I just ate it and explained when the bill came that they needed to charge me for a cheeseburger, not the other one. They were confused, understandably. After all, how could I possibly have eaten the wrong burger! To cut a long story short, the burger story is not really a big deal. The big deal is that I have eaten at other Papa Joe places and their pastries are generally fresh and taste nice! Not here. On 3 separate occasions, they have all failed. Last night's carrot cake was no exception sadly. Oh well what more can I say? 3 stars it is because the coffee et al all fall within acceptable parameters!

This would be my fourth or fifth visit to this fine establishment and on a beautiful day I cannot imagine a more scenic place to be (other than on a beach with last month's FHM hottie) Anyways, apologies for digressing, the place is tastefully located on Truc Bac lake and is less busy than the Highland's coffee joint further down the road. The chocolate truffles are the "piece de resistance" while the food and drinks that I have had are more than up to par. It also has wifi should you need to spend your hours surfing away merrily waiting for the world to pass by. Definitely a relaxing Sunday afternoon place.

This is a great little place that has been newly renovated and looks the part. I noticed the 9 small paintings hung tastefully facing the entrance and decided to give it a go. I am surprised that no-one has posted here before as it is an ideal little spot for a bite to eat before the opera house. The food we all had was very tasty and at a price that won't break the bank! You could always opt for the Metropole or My Way or the restaurant under the opera house if you want to re-mortgage the house. Great location and equally great service and plenty of room for large groups in the back.

I stumbled into this place last night after looking for a convenient cafe close to Thai Ha and the first thing I have to say is that the view is GREAT. I like high buildings and although the place is small and quiet, it was exactly what I was looking for. Sadly no wifi, so work options may be limited but the food and drink are cheap and the staff are friendly. There was hardly anyone there for most of the evening so I am guessing it is not a popular spot for the locals. This means you can enjoy uninterrupted silence far from the madding crowd!

Out of sheer morbid curiosity did I dare venture into this place and having now read the previous reviews, I fully agree and sympathise with those poor people who also visited the place. On a positive note, the band is remarkably good and you can try throwing up a few requests on a piece of paper and they will actually sing your song (if it is suitably cheesy of course!) The drinks are bloody expensive, 40,000VND for a coke but you do have lots of beautiful girls in short skirts to ogle, although I doubt it warrants the lofty prices.
On a curious note, I went to the loo and found myself in quite a precarious situation. While concentrating on passing water, I felt a wet towel being placed on the back of my neck by some random guy who I guessed was there to hand out the towels. Not content with disrupting my flow he then continued to massage my shoulders, hence stemming the flow completely. This was disturbing, unprecedented and very uncomfortable. I am not sure if the Vietnamese like being massaged while they pee but I certainly don't so just watch out for the next time you are in there doing your business. Probably a good idea to head straight for a number 2!

Looking at the other reviews makes me think, did I really visit the same place???? Well I did and I had a few different things. The pasta was al dente, the milkshakes were bloody great, the pizza was small, but edible and the coffee was spot on! Yes, I agree with the soulless shopping centre comment (let's face it, we are in Vietnam) but the food was fine. So maybe somebody has had a look at these reviews and given them a kick up the arse and they have managed to get their act together. The only negative thing I would say however, is the fact that they don't have wifi. You have to go into Highland's for that I am afraid.

Apparently, this place dates back to the good old days when there were very few restaurants or Bun Cha in Hanoi. One the first and best places to try Bun Cha for all the tourists. This by no means implies that the food will be any better than any of the other places you might want to try but it does have the privilege of being around much longer than the others. It has the same character that belongs to many of these "plastic stool" establishments, i.e. smoky, dirty and noisy. If you want clean and crisp with candles and music, then go find another place to eat - there are many fine restaurants in Hanoi. Don't whine about it being grimy or over-crowded. This is the nature of the beast but at the same time, the very place where you can discover the essence of Hanoi. If you have some Vietnamese then life is easier here, if not, then just struggle along like the rest of us.

At last I managed to eat here outside of the party we all enjoyed. The food was as good as I remembered it to be. Here is one of the greatest things about the place - not a secret, mind you but certainly worth knowing - it stays open late! And I mean LATE! No closing at 10pm, pushing you out the door at 9.59.... No, these guys understand the concept of hospitality and making you feel at home. You can stay and eat for as long as you like! Yes, the hummous is a tad expensive but you will get some included with some of the mains so not to fret about expenses - after all where the hell else can you get Lebanese food? So stop your whining, for Christ's sake and enjoy the food! Great place, great food, great service! What more do you want? Perfection????

Maybe it had to do with the fact that I turned up here at 9.15 and felt under pressure to eat fast. They close at 10 but the staff started leaving about 9.30. The menu variety was not there for me either as I am guessing, nobody wanted to have a go at preparing tempanyaki at this late hour! Oh well, such is life. The food was adequate and the large group that were finishing were nice and noisy just to top off the whole experience. Perhaps under different circumstances it might have been better, but at the current moment, I will just have to say, maybe next time.
