Went this morning looking forward again to an excellent panini to find they were using baguettes instead for all sandwiches.
Initially was told there were supply problems but then that the management had decided this.
I have been in the past and would have given it at least 3-4 stars but will be interesting if there is a return to true Italian sandwiches - I am sure baguettes are cheaper.....

Hi I need to open a bank account in Hanoi within a couple of weeks and was wondering if any bank is best for foreigners. I realise taht the ANZ requires a minimum of US$1000 or fees apply. Any feedback on other options such as Vietcombank, Citibank,HSBC would be appreciated. I am short of freetime to check out the others so all assistance or information is greatly appreciated. Thanks
Hi
I was wondering if there are any keen cyclists out there who have bought a bag for their bicycle in Hanoi.
I am looking for one for the front handle bars and need one that is strong, durable and preferably waterproof.
Any ideas would be appreciated.
I was wondering if anyone has used an architect to build a house or building here and what the initial plans cost for a 5-6-7 storey building would be.
Or maybe a reputable construction company that provides a full service from plans to construction?
Any information would be gratefully received.
Hi some friends are cycling in August from Hanoi to Laos and want to stay overnight on the Vietnam - Laos border in Na Meo.
There is a hotel there as Thorntree and other sites have plenty of stories about the "bad" arrival experience from Laos for travellers but no name etc for the hotels/guesthouses.
If anyone has info my friends would be most grateful.
Hi
I hav ebeen trying to get a clear answer on the following:
If I wish to have people in different offices and on different floors using a computer do I need to buy individual system units or can I have a main system unit and just run cabling and have a screen, keyboard and mouse on each desk??
Any advantage/disadvantage of doing this if it is possible???
Thanks

Hi
To get both a designer and carpenter all in one could be difficult. The normal thing is to go to one of the furniture shops and get them to design what you want and then they will go to one of their workshops and have it made. There are wood work villages outside Hanoi so if you want you could try there but would need to speak Vietnamese probably and have a design ready for them.
It is coming up to Tet so you may have wait for a while.
You may like to try Maroon at 156 Hang Bong as they are cheaper than Dome and Mosaique.

Hi
There is a shop at 2D Quang Trung St that advertises it does b/w.I used it maybe 3 or 4 years ago and it was okay. I had the same problem with b/w at Nguyen Cau about the same time.
There used to be a shop in Hang Hom that sold chemicals, trays,paper,b/w film etc - mainly Agfa chemicals and paper - but it has disappeared in the last 12 months.
which is a pity.
It primarily was selling oils for artists so maybe someone knows if it has moved or actually closed down.
As Grubby said long ago you just need a tank and a dark room if all you want to do is develop film.

I will be interested to see how you go with this. I do not believe you can send money out of Vietnam easily. You will need to show where the money has come from for a start. I have an account at the above mentioned ANZ and can transfer money as my pay goes into the account. Recently I was overseas and a friend tried to put cash into my account here in Hanoi and was told she could not do so as they did not know where it was from.
There are lots of Western Union offices - these are for inbound remittances which amount to in excess of 1.7 billion US$ per year but it is not possible t use them to send money out.
Good luck.
In response to the question: Does anyone have information on international bank transfers? I don't have an account in Hanoi and I'd like to send money overseas. Any suggestions o...

Hi I was at Big C yesterday an dit is 324,000vnd for 2kg of NZ cheddar. How long have you had your maid - or maybe the price did go up for Tet?? I am not cycnical mind you!
Today at the Hai Ba TRung entrance to 1912 I was quoted 175,000vnd per kilo so about 350,000vnd for 2 kg without any bargaining.
Have you checked prices at the Kiwi produce shop in Ly Nam De??

Hi
I think my first step would be to look at the regulations for where you are moving to. Countries such as Australia,New Zealand do not allow animals into the country from Vietnam. The only way around it is to quarantine them in somewhere such as Singapore for 3 months.
This at least was the case about 4 years ago when I looked at it.
If you are moving within Asia this is not a problem.
I would approach some of the major removal companies as I am sure 1 of them does this service as part of moving households.

Hi Steve
Friends of mine moved last week to Saigon and used Saigon Van having asked a number of moving companies for prices - Saigon Van were cheapest and did a superb job. Came and packed everything in a morning and today are due to delivery.
Another friend used their affiliated company in Bangkok to move to Saigon and said the service was excellent and the price was the best they could find.
Good luck
