Not only is this little cafe a winner they are also putting back into the community and are proud sponsors of the Vietnam Swans AFL Club.
Many many thanks.

Very friendly cafe style bar. They offer a happy hour from 2-5pm with wines at 30,000 per glass and a selection of local and international beers. Thuy and Ha are great and always accommodating (I have 18 month old twins - we are not always received well in places). So are their staff who welcome us with a friendly smile or even greet us as they see us coming down the street.
I have not had a bad meal here and have tried breakfasts, lunch's and dinners. At times the drinks have not been cold enough, however they have rectified this now with a little esky to chill them more quickly than a fridge during busier times.
Highly recommend trying it out, a terrific little place in a great location for those living in Ba Dinh.

Great place for a relaxing hour or two, they offer Swedish, Shiatsu and Aromatherapy massages. All very friendly, quiet, professional and clean. They also offer morning customers a discount during their quiet times. Seems to have a good number of returning clients, and each time I have been I have not needed a booking although you can book in advance by phone with reasonable english.

Ete is my local bar and its always friendly to pop in for a bite to eat or a drink with mates. I was there this evening and have just found out that it changed owners this week. Ben is the new owner and is currently changing the menu and fully renovating the kitchen, although he assures us the meals will continue from a makeshift kitchen.
Tonight we sampled two of the new items on the menu, one was a huge omelette with salad and fries and the other a burger with salad and fries. Now I may be a little presumptuous here but I feel this burger gave R and R's burgers a run for their money. And as both these large meals were only 50,000VND you can't go wrong.
Other new food on the blackboards included a range of tartines, salads and Vietnamese style food.
Can't wait to see the completed menu, nor the Rugby World Cup on the big screen coming soon to Ete.

Absolutely fantastic little pamper session today. I took my hair colour details from Australia and walked out a perfect match. Also had some waxing and it wasn't scary at all.
Big thumbs up to Mr Tu in Mr Vu's absence, wouldn't know he was not the executive stylist.

Hi
I have just arrived in Hanoi with 7 month old twins, really need help in finding accommodation and a nanny.
But my highest priority right now is finding baby formula and cots. Tom the 'roller' is currently sleeping on the floor.
Have tried the Citimart under Hanoi Towers for formula, but they didn't have Heinz Formula and also tried Vincom towers for the cots but they also didn't have any.
If anyone knows a nanny in need of work could you please recommend this post to them.
Thanks
Does anyone use International Calling cards in Hanoi and where can you buy them?
Am I about to be told the easiest and cheapest way is using Skype or some other Net 2 Phone service?
Is there an easy way to get to Cuc Phuong? I am travelling with babies and family visiting so there are enough of us to hire a car. Does anyone know a driver or alternative way to get there?
LP says there are no direct bus routes, is this true?
Anyone know the story behind the B52 in the lake near Ngoc Ha. I pass it most days and think WOW, but no one can tell me if the area was residential at the time of it either falling out of the sky or if it was moved here.
Howdy fellow hanoians,
do the hanoi swans still train thursday evenings, and if so where and what time? oh, and just the training still mainly comprise most of the guys doing 'weights training' at a bia hoi?

Thanks, I did find cots on De La Thanh Street and then was emailed a website which is very handy, but you would need someone who knows Vietnamese to order anything.
Link to cots

This place has all kinds of brass instruments. Its easy to find on the same road as St Joseph's Church just walk from there up to Hang Bong Street and its on the left.
When I was in there I didn't ask about price, but nothing was labelled with a price.

I've been in Hanoi for a month now with 7 month old twins. During summer holidays most of these things take a break as this is the season for moving or travelling.
As for Mother's Groups and things like that. HIWC were fantastic with answering my questions before I arrived, unfortunately I haven't met any of the women and have now started work.

There are some websites like eBay all in Vietnamese where you can buy cots and whitegoods but you'll need to know someone who can read Vietnamese. Here is a link that will at least get you into the site but just flip through

But once you are here things fall into place very quickly and a lot of accommodation comes fully furnished.
Again HIWC will be willing and able to answer more specific questions.

Voo Doo is good for hair, although the waxing was a bit wayward.
Have heard QTs is good for both.

I went to the Auscham thing last week on the Vietnamese economy. It was informative and the good news on the property front is a prediction that the bubble is about to burst.
As for the rent and greedy landlords, I know that my landlord had me sign two rental agreements, one at a lower price than my agreed rent, so he doesn't have to pay as much tax. I am tipping I am not the only one doing this, so well done for travelgoddess on standing your ground.
In response to the question: My rent contract is in USD but I pay in VND, I think this is pretty standard and wasnt a problem at all until last month. At that time my landlord...

I have been here a year and arrived with 7 month old twins. I had similar concerns as you and the HIWC group answered nearly all of them.
HIWC have a weekly playgroup. Morningstar Kindergarten also has a weekly mothers and baby hour.
Strollers here need to be ruggered and what you can find here to purchase are not good quality or really expensive in at Hanoi Towers. When I first arrived I walked most places on the road pushing our 3 wheel buggy (which came with us from Australia) and commanding as much space as a motorbike on the roads.
It is overwhelming when you first arrive, but gets much easier and there are loads of people here with little ones.
My kids have had all the checks done at the Family Medical Practice including vaccinations. Very happy with their service.
One thing I have not been able to find here is cot sheets, but I have noticed there is more baby merchandise available than a year ago when I was really looking.
High chairs, cots, safety gates, dummies, bottles, milk powder, baby jar food, nappies and wet ones are all readily available in Hanoi.
In response to the question: Hello! I will move with my family that includes 8 month old baby to Hanoi this October. Was wondering if babyfood is easily available in shops? Fam...
