If you like to discuss the topics "Hmm.. Why do they have so hard city names, it was something like Ha Cha Mi city I was in last week" and "Well, I was in India last week, and, yeah, I have to say that those people are not as smart as we" this is probably a great place for you. If you want higher standard than that, you should might try somewhere else.

Is it possible to "upgrade" the tourist visa to business visa if I have a visa approval? Or do I need to go out of the country and get a new visa at some embassy?
Does anyone know about a place where I can rent cheap (that will be a small apartment) local style a bit outside the city, where they don't charge foreigners way too much? (And I really mean cheap, which also means low standard)
Someone today told me that there are brand new work permit rules, which makes working permit almost impossible to obtain and the same with business visa for more than 6 months if you don't have any extremely special skill or something like that. Anyone heard about this? I know it wasn't like this last year, so I didn't expect it to suddenly change. Anyone knows?
How to work legally as a private teacher? (Not English teacher). I would guess a Vietnamese would start up a household business, but you need Vietnamese citizenship to do this. So how to do this legally as a foreigner?
Somehow my question seems to have disappeared,so I try again. How to do private teaching at home legally?(Not English).I guess Vietnamese would register a household business?Do we need to register a business and pay taxes and all that kind of stuff,or how does it work? And when is a foreigner a resident in Vietnam?
Is it possible to stay "forever" in VN on business visa, by just extending it? Or is there some laws around this? That you for example need to have a company or job, or smth like that?
Is there any laws regarding foreigners renting apartments in Vietnam? Are we allowed to rent all apartments Vietnamese can rent?
Where to buy mobile covers? Would be nice if anyone knows where they have a lot of different covers. And what should I pay for a new cover for my old Nokia?

Visa approval is that one person/org in Vietnam has to "invite" you to get business visa. But if you buy business visa through a travel agent they normally set their company name as the sponsor. I was thinking of getting business visa without going to a travel agency. Their prices are so sky-high that its cheaper to take the bus to Vientiane and back to get a visa at the Vietnamese embassy there.

What? You need a "police check" to get work permit in Vietnam? To get that from my country you need a written application from those you need to show the "police check" to. I assume the Vietnamese government have better things to do than to write an application to get my "police check" :S In other words it is impossible for me to get work permit in Vietnam?

Hello again. When I say low price, I mean low price. In Nha Trang they charged me just a couple of dollars more for an apartment than for locals. The month price of the room my friend had was 19$ for him per month, but I had to pay 21$/month because I am foreigner. I have heard that rooms around Gia Lâm is about 300 000, so I was thinking about someplace where I can rent rooms like that, but where they don't "rob" foreigners.

I know that you didn't need a degree last year. Maybe it was temp. allowed to get things established fast? I don't know. Thanks for the answer. And hopefully if someone else know something more, they will post. Can't understand that things can change so fast.

And another question. Are you sure that work permission is needed for all kinds of work? I just got a job offer today at a hotel, and they told me that I didn't need work permission, just the 6 month business visa, and upgrade it again after 6 months.

In other words; it's quite impossible to move to smaller cities? I don't think there is other foreigners where I am than me (other than tourists of course). And I doubt anyone would be licensed to rent to foreigners here.

"The most you can withdraw at one time is 2 million Dong, and you can only do that 3 times a day."
I don't know if there is some special things about US credit cards, but I withdraw 16 million with my VISA card at the ANZ ATM with 4 millions at a time, and 20.000 in fees for every time. (Norwegian card)

There is a Internet cafe in Hang Non street where they have both scanner and printer. It's in the end of the street, facing Hang Quat street. If you need high quality pictures of what you have scanned you have to tell the man working there (he is the only one who knows how to use the scanner there) to do so. If not he will compress the pictures too much.
In response to the question: where can i find an internet location (I do not have a laptop)which has keyboards that are legible and printing/scanning equipment that actually works...

Why not stay on business visa? I have heard people getting trouble extending tourist visa more than 4 times(that will be 4 months). Many travel agencies can upgrade your tourist visa to business visa for about 90$ for a 6 month visa(which again can be upgraded).
Note: I don't know what you are planning to do in VN, but if you plan to use business visa without having a "valid reason", be aware of that the different provinces in VN handle the laws in different ways. If you stay in Ha Noi you will probably have no problem, but if you do long-term stay in other provinces you should be careful. I got expelled because of that, and right now sitting in my home country :'(
