about the event: The 12 Pubs of Christmas by The Lone Rangers @ International Bia Hoi Corner

I've been busy. So when is (or was) this event? I see wed. 19th I see thurs. 20th. Any chance of a re-run fri. 21st?
If non give a list of the pubs and we can do our own celebration tour. Cheers, Santa.

We have only had a light lunch time meal at this resuarant so we haven't given the menu a good work out. Navigating the stairs to the roof top was the worst bit. Once there, the view over Kim Ma Street made for interesting viewing, as do most street scenes, as we waited for our vietnamese salads.
The food was fresh and very tasty and reasonably priced. The service was efficient and friendly. We'd go back.

I have read recently that on certain days and at certain times you are now able to walk around parts of the Hanoi ancient Citadel. I have lost the details and ask does anyone know more about this. I really just need to know which is the correct point of entry.
There was a question from a Canadian back on 1/10/2007 and some answers about the weather here in winter. I say what about all those Mountie and Lumberjack stories I read as a young Antipodean. Anyway in the answers was some info. about $500 duty free vouchers for in bound travellers that can be used within 5 days of arrival. Can someone give us more details. If we ever get to leave this city it may come in handy.
We are looking for a decent sized coffee plunger. We have the small size (1 cup) with the gold lid which we purchased at a supermarket for 50000 vnd but we are tired of having to make two lots everytime we both need a Tonkin Coffee coffee.
Has anyone been to Mai Chau by public bus? Can you post details of where the bus leaves from (My Dinh Bus Station perhaps)and the times it leaves and returns to Hanoi (maybe that's a timetable we're after!)
Yes, i know they are every where but where did i see those striped red, white and blue plastic woven storage bags with the zip and handles? They open up into a rectangular cube shape. They come in different sizes.

There seems to be an unwritten law that we don't ask questions about motor bike riding in Hanoi - bad karma etc etc. Just take it easy and pray to the great cycle god, it's working so far for me. PS Vietnam does not recognize the Australian International Driver's License so I imagine this is the same for bike licenses. No license seems to be required at all for expats, correct me someone if I'm wrong. You will be glad to know, in a perverse sort of way, that 97% of road fatalities occur in rural areas so your chances of survival are looking up.
In response to the question: Hi there, I am moving to Hanoi in a week and am considering buying a motorbike (and getting lessons on how to ride one!). My travel insurance will on...

Hai Ba Trung Street LG DVD player $50. Nice unit. Working fine for me for the last 3 months with a 12 month warranty. Can't think of the shop but I have the receipt somewhere. As I was told by another NH watch out for some of the super cheap Chinese models with plastic lenses. I think most DVD players are zone free here. Again someone tell me if this is incorrect.
In response to the question: Hi all. Can anyone recommend an electronics store where they speak english? I want to buy a DVD player and have tried to ask about zone-free machines ...

Nothing like the weather to get everyone talking. What interests me is the duty free voucher business. Is this a Canadian/Vietnamese thing or does it extend to the land "down under" for when we leave and then return. How does one get to beat the tax man?

To add to this whole Kettle Chip debate, and I'm only a disinterested "passer onner" of news. I saw that Unimart, 8 Pham Ngoc Thach, had Kettle Chips from Salem, Oregon (if that's important I don't know)for sale. Sea salt and vinegar, Lightly salted, Dijon honey and New York cheddar. 48000 vnd. Keep chipping away.

To add to the total sum of human knowledge on "Cardboard Box Street" (6a Cha Ca) I can add the following, to save you a second trip, the following sizes available include (cm): 70x50x40, 68x49x30, 65x40x50, 60x41x37, 55x47x55, 52x52x43, 51x34x31, 51x26x31, 45x32x32. Size 52x52x43 sells for 15000vnd and 45x32x32 sells for 10000vnd. There are smaller sizes but we didn't need them so you will have to go look yourself.
Rolls of best quality adhesive tape are 10000vnd, you don't want that rubbish that splinters into pieces and the sharpest finger nails cannot locate! Thin foam sheeting, not bubble wrap sells at 32000vnd per kilo. and small bubble wrap is 42000vnd per kilo. (there must be some sort of cubic metric kilo. thingy because these kilos. do not weigh a kilo). Happy packing.
In response to the question: I'm moving house soon. Anyone know a good place to get cardboard boxes for packing my stuff in?...

try hang ga street. we had 200 double sided cards printed on GOOD quality stock for 140000 dong. they designed them on the spot and were ready in 48 hours. if you do a better price good on ya!
every shop here seems to print business cards and wedding cards.( almost a good enough reason to get re-married - to the original person off course!)
we went to 91 hang ga and there was someone who spoke reasonable english.
if you have a usb you may get a better price.
