I think the following:
-I am excited that a Lebanese restaurant is open in Hanoi
-I think the food is good, though not amazing, but definitely a nice change of pace from other meals in Hanoi
-I think the menu needs tweaking.. I am quite cheap, so other people might not agree, but I think that either a) you go unabashedly for higher-end crowd, upgrade the decorations (ex: currently food is served on plain white plates, no placemats, etc.) or b) you re-price dishes on the menu. I am fully sympathetic to the high food costs (I disagree with SoViet about ingredients: I am sure that the restaurant imports a lot of products, and lemons are really expensive here). I think a decent solution would be to offer smaller portion sizes (current sizes are quite large, at least for the mains) at lower prices, so that customers can sample more dishes..
Overall I think it has real potential but just needs to work out some kinks.

i basically agree with a lot of the points below (i especially like "warm buzz" as described by hanoirob)
what i like most about this place is the feeling that you are going out to dinner but it's not a big to do, sort of feels like it would be the local corner restaurant in some smaller japanese city, instead of a big formal to-do like some of the other japanese places in town.
i've only been there twice, but next time i go i'm committing a buying myself a bottle of sake.

I just need to reaffirm my love for this place. It's genuinely one of the only transactions I make in this city where, when it's time to pay, I have absolutely no doubt that it is a fair price. As a non-enthused negotiator (and also a non-enthused bike repairer), this is the perfect spot for me.

I thought this place was okay, not fantastic but definitely a nice change of pace from the regular Vietnamese Thai Indian Western food rotation that I seem to get myself into here in Ha Noi.
It was good to be in front of a Tepanyaki grill, though I was a little sad that the chef never flicked a prawn tail into his hat (Benihana has changed my worldview in small but important ways). The garlic sauce for the seafood was delicious. The kim chi was a little overspiced. The bimbab was tasty (especially the burnt crispy rice at the bottom of the bowl) and, at $6, quite a good deal.
Overall, it's a place worth trying for a change of pace, but probably won't become a regular spot, at least for me.

I'd heard that this place was great but when I went here I thought it was just so-so.
The miso soup was strangely oversalted, the california roll was over-mayonaised, and the spicy tuna roll was over-spicied (plus the tuna cuts were dry and steaklike).
On the plus side, the tuna sushi was heavenly, the salmon was nice, and the cucumber roll was surprisingly delicious.
Overall I think you could have a very enjoyable meal here if you ordered just right, but there are quite a few pitfalls to avoid.
Also, the rice was not quite sticky enough, which made eating the sushi a bit challenging.

I'm trying to figure out where to watch the French Open semi-finals and finals this weekend.. Does anyone know a good sports bar that would be carrying tennis?
My mom is coming to town and while I am at work she wants to look at some museums. Does anyone have a few good recommendations (other than the Ethnology Museum) of interesting spots?
Strange question, but does anyone know of any good fly-fishing spots in Vietnam (or in the region more generally?)
Thanks in advance.

I'm no expert on this city, but I think your only sensible option will be renting a house. I don't imagine that it would be too hard to find one (and it certainly won't be too expensive). If I think of a good way to go about searching for an appropriate property, I'll post again.

I moved to Ha Noi because my girlfriend started a career in the US Foreign Service. Some of her friends got postings in Haiti and Niger; in terms of French colonialism, I definitely came out on top.
