The Oasis is a great addition to the Tay Ho area. Everything I have had there is nothing short of delicious, and the owner makes it so easy. Individually packaged home made lasagnas for 40,000, ravioli, fresh fettuccine, gourmet cheese, fresh baked bread and imported deli meat. They even deliver.

Prior to my Chocolate Buffet experience at the Metropole, I didn't think it was possible to indulge in so much chocolate in one day.
This buffet is truly decadent. I opted for the high tea plus chocolate buffet ($20) which included unlimited trips to the chocolate buffet. The tripoli of fruit, scones, waffles and tea sandwiches served as a much needed "palate cleanser" between plates of chocolate.
Beautiful setting and incredible food.

I dined at Ren with a Japanese friend to try something other than my usual sushi and tempura Japanese restaurant experience.
There are two menus at Ren, one in Japanese for the pros and one with pictures for the novices like me.
I really enjoyed the ambiance, although it was quite smoky on a Thursday night. The upstairs was packed and reservations were necessary.
My friend ordered for us, and each dish was amazing. We started with a small starter of edamame, squid and sashimi. Next was the soft shell crab spring rolls. Although not traditionally Japanese, this was the best spring roll I have ever had (even better than the catfish spring rolls at Highway 4). For dinner we tried the grilled Salmon ($10) and the Sashimi platter ($17). The platter included 8 rolls of tuna sushi, two pieces of salmon, tuna, yellow tail, and squid Sashimi. I was not disappointed. With two iced teas, the total was 650,000. I absolutely loved the food and the atmosphere, however the price will keep me from making it one of my regular spots.

Jumping on the "Green" restaurant bandwagon (Green mango, Green Tangerine), Somtam recently painted their walls green, changed their name to Green Papaya and reopened for business.
This is a good restaurant. The menu is extensive, including any curry, fish, prawn, oyster, and vegetarian dishes you could want. I often order the prawns with yellow curry ($6.00), Tom Yum soup or the Pad Thai. Be prepared to de-head your prawns and have those black eyes staring at you through your meal.
While the food is good and the outdoor patio is charming, the restaurant is always empty, except for the few times a week when two tour buses pull up and hungry tourists file in for a authentic Thai experience while in Vietnam.

I have been on a scrambled egg kick lately so I decided to try the breakfast at Kitchen.
I have had good experiences with lunch and dinner here, the food is always good, but I have to be ready to face the 'elements' of Hanoi while I am eating: heat (no ac) flies & lizards. Despite the elements, I still come back because the food is good.
Today I ordered the scrambled eggs (63,000), and was disappointed. The eggs portion size was large, but the eggs were runny and over peppered. The side of grilled veggies were OK, and the toast was the most palatable thing on my plate. Someone at the next table ordered the eggs Benedict which looked divine, so perhaps I ordered wrong. I will still go back for breakfast and try it again, just no scrambled eggs.
