I've been into Jojo's four or five times since it opened for dinner or just drinks and had some great nights there. The atmosphere on Friday nights seems to be pretty lively but during the week it's a little more laid back and chilled. Definitely a welcome addition to the Hanoi wining dining/bar scene.
I've had some of the tapas style starters which were pretty tasty and the obscenely large burger (one of the best I've had in Hanoi).
The wine by the glass is good value (they don't charge you more by not ordering the bottle like most places) and they have loads of choices for red and white.
Can't understand why former Spotted cow regulars have a problem that the building became something else (see previous reviews). It's like moaning that Toyota should have kept the spirit of Apocalypse Now going in their salesroom on Hoa Ma Street.

RE: Comments below, as far as I know Ky Y is closed every Sunday.
Monday to Saturday it's one of the best Japanese restaurants in town.
Good value lunches. Great atmosphere at the bar in the evenings. Super popular so it's worth booking, if you want to sit there. Pretty cool that they give free beer vouchers out when it's full. And the fact it's nearly always full is a very good sign indeed.

You can lead the horse to water but unless he/ she gets good riverside service you can't expect him/ her to drink.
Surely Mister Kurtz could have tried the bar -- all of six feet away -- and got some prompt service, non?
I was also there that evening (sitting at another table due to a recent falling out with Mr. Kurtz over a cocktail made with a red bell pepper and a mélange of nasty liquors) and for the record I enjoyed prompt service for the duration of my stay in the far corner of the bar.
Of course, I like to think I say "em oi" with an irresistible flair.
I wouldn't write home about JAFA (though I will comment here to counterbalance Kurtz's complaint) but I find the management to be very generous and the restaurant clearly serves a purpose in the Truman Show-world of Ciputra.

The Cheeky Quarter ticks all the right boxes: Beers are always nice and cold, staff are chilled out and on the ball and there's invariably good tunes playing and a lively atmosphere. It's a small spot but I feel way less claustrophobic than I do in the other Ta Hien bars on busy nights for some reason. Maybe it's the gigantic mirror.

about the event: Minsk Olympics & Music Festival by Minsk Club Hanoi Vietnam @ Thac Da Resort

For the last five years this has been a cracker of a party and a great way to start the summer in style.
This year there will be even more fun and games, a band from Japan and a couple of very entertaining rappers who are based in TPHCM, as well as all the CAMA djs, so bring your friends and your dancing shoes!

There's a great mechanic on Dang Thai Mai or rather off Dang Thai Mai street in Tay Ho district.
Drive down Xuan Dieu, take a left onto Dang Thai Mai street and take the first left then the first right. Basically it's behind all the potted plant shops and kumquat gardens on Dang Thai Mai street. Sorry I don't know the exact address but those directions should get you there.
You'll see the pristine and not-so-pristine Vespas thirty yards down the lane on your right.
The old owner Bao is a really honest and his mechanics are good. He speaks zero English though.
In response to the question: Can anyone recommend a Vespa mechanic? I've just bought an old one and it needs a thorough going over. Also are there any enthusiasts who want t...
