The food was of good quality and presented well as I would expect in any 5* - the portions were fine.
The "fusion" theme seems to apply to the decor which didn't appeal to me at all - the red neon and psychedelic tv screen with dance music just didn't set the scene for a comfortable relaxing dinner.
The staff were pleasant and capable but for the prices they charge they need to be much much more attentive.
As for price it's in one of the top hotels so of course it is expensive but for me in this case not really worth it - but I have tried it and now I know - though the meal was fine I won't be back.

There is only 1 star because it is required to post!!!
The service and treatment I have received from this office and all the "executive" personnel I have contacted in this organisation has been diabolical.
I had a genuine complaint after staying at their resort for a weekend with my family, my son injured himself in the pool, due to poor maintenance and a total disregard for the health and safety of their guests, I wished to recoup the doctors bill which was $95
When I returned to Hanoi and tried to lodge my complaint I was asked to do so in writing - which I did, since then the last 2 weeks have consisted of run arounds, blatant lies, patronising comments to ultimately being ignored and hung up on by Jane the sales executive, who now informs me the issue is concluded!!!
Wow I blinked and missed that.
So caveat emptor - nice location - the hotel incidentally wasn't that clean and the water was cold as well as a host of other minor things that made the stay memorable for all the wrong reasons.

What an amazing place.
I love everything about it. The atmosphere has been so carefully created it is like stepping into another world.
The chocolate products are of course top notch - someone here really knows what they are doing.
I highly recommend you try it even if chocolate is not your number one treat, they could convert you!!

This place seems to have closed down or is possibly being refurbished

Wow, it was amazing.
I can only retierate all the great things that have been said about this restaurant.
Absolutely everything was excellent and the attention of Mr. Gopi made the whole experience the best I have ever had with Indian food.
I can only say that as long as I stay in Hanoi this will be my first and probably only choice, I have thrown away all my other delivery menus - this is only one I need.

try the army museum - it has some interesting exhibits - especially the aircraft and the view from the top of the tower is really good and worth the walk up.
Perhaps you could get her a copy of the Hanoi Guide too which gives a lot of information on places to go and things to do in Hanoi.
In response to the question: My mom is coming to town and while I am at work she wants to look at some museums. Does anyone have a few good recommendations (other than the Ethnolo...

Have a look on the internet for a company called Hidden Hanoi - they are located near the Sheraton Hotel.
The restaurant group called Highway 4 also offer this service
I believe the sofitel and/or metropole hotels also do classes - Hanoi International Womens Club organises lessons for it's members.
I'm sure there are others but these are the ones I have heard good things about.
It will be worth checking the UNIS community education courses when they start up again as they have offered cookery classes in the past.
Hope this helps

I have a lot of DVD's from Europe and non of them will play on my locally bought machine - and none of the locally copied dvd's will play on my UK machine!
The local store told me the DV9 discs will play on any machine and that's why they are double the price. Haven't tried that out yet as my Uk machine is currently in for repairs
In response to the question: Hi all. Can anyone recommend an electronics store where they speak english? I want to buy a DVD player and have tried to ask about zone-free machines ...

With regards to the english teaching on a voluntary basis - HIWC (Hanoi International Womens Association) have a project with the Womens Union and check organisations such as Blue Dragon or KOTO who work with street children - they could be interested in some short term assistance. They all have websites you can find easily with a search.
With regards to the apartment we used an agent called Mr. Ahn from Image Group Agency located at 17 To Ngoc Van Street Tay Ho
Tel : 84 04 7194375 or mobile 0903489192
He has always been very professional and helpful and also speaks english well.

try 44 Tran Tien Street - leading from Hoan Kiem lake to the Opera House - they stock a lot of english books and may have maths and science or if not may know where you can get them.
Perhaps the school would give you some help sourcing the right books too.

It depends on how long you are coming for - everything is pretty much available here but the equivalent quality is sometimes expensive and some household things are simply not available.
If it is a long term stay then it is probably worth bringing things that you use a lot. Especially as someone is offering to cover the shipping, why waste money buying things you already have!
We shipped things here and didn't have any problems with customs etc. Though that doesn't mean there are never any problems.
In response to the question: My husband I are moving to Hanoi in December. My company covers shipping, and we're trying to decide what/how much to bring. Are there certain househ...

As far as I know you are allowed to earn 8 million dong before tax then pay 10% on earnings after that. If you are here less than 6 months I believe it is a higher %though not sure.
The employer should deduct the tax for you but I would check on that.

We pay our maid / babysitter $220 per month for 5 days / 9+ hours depending on our work shcedules (babysitting at night is extra).
Yes she does earn more than some people working in offices / factories etc. BUT I'm entrusting her with the care and welfare of my children while I am at work and I go and don't worry everything is ok as I know she is good at her job. For this the price is justified don't you think??

I totally agree with all of the above but just wanted to add that sometimes I find it difficult to get shoes and other friends with slightly larger feet have said the same - not sure about mens but for womens it seems to be the case - you can get them made but sometimes you just want to be able to buy them off the shelf.

We have done this journey quite a few times now - the beds are ok and come with linen - pillow, duvet and sheet(we all managed to sleep but it's not dunlopillo by any stretch of the imagination). You will also get a bottle of water and there is a trolley selling various items (tea, crisps etc) I have never tried the food which has looked everything from pretty good to scary. Take some snacks (there's a hot water tank in each coach so pot noodles are easy to do), loo roll and easy slip on shoes for the toilet in the night. On the return journey the conductor may try to fob you off with used bed linen, be polite but insistent and he will change it eventually - or swap with unused from another cabin which is what we have done on a few occassions - going out it's not an issue as the train starts from Hanoi.
In response to the question: We're a day away from leaving for Hue by train (wow, that rhymed!) Anyway, they were sold out of "soft sleeper" berths, so we got "hard sleeper."...

I have to agree with Grubby, in my experience using the water heater for the required 10 mins before the shower certainly keeps the bills down - in our first house the switch for one was outside!!! and we didn't find out for 2 months that it was on constantly - the bill dropped significantly when it was turned off.
In response to the question: Just a quick one- Does anyone know if turning off the hot water switch at night is actually worth doing in order to save on electricity? I'm on the "b...
