• So, this morning I turn on my laptop and whaddya know, it doesn't boot up. Correction, at first it gets to the HP (pavilion dv1000) screen, there are a few blue lines running across it, and sticks. So I restart, and nothing. The keyboard and power lights come on, the cdrom flashes a few times, but nothing else - not even the bios screen. Last night I let my antivirus software run and then automatically power down. I know there was a worm virus from plugging into the internet line here. After checking online, it seems that maybe the motherboard is fried. Really, I don't know what to do about this! Are there any reputable shops here that can work with HP laptops? UGH!!!

• Ugh, I didn't mean to...but the gifts keep coming and the price of tailoring has left me with TOO MUCH STUFF! Now that I am about to leave, I need to think about shipping half of it home (about 15kg). My question is, how reliable is the regular post here? I don't want to ship through FedEx or DHL - the customs tax is ridiculous. Will my box arrive in one piece? Time isn't so much an issue but I don't want to wait 6 months (hence, no ship). I'm sure people have experience with this...I need to send to Australia. Help??

  Thanks for the reply. I called them and they only fix computers that are purchased at their store. I don't have any of my WinXP discs, I have nothing. So aggravating!

  Hi all. Just to quickly follow this up - I did contact Mr. Tuyen as suggested. He was very nice and promptly answered all my questions. It took about two weeks to get my laptop back, the problem being a bad motherboard "chipset" = $150 replacement. So far it seems to work just fine, however my CD writer has stopped burning cds. I am trying to sort this out, and I'll quickly explain the problem in case you have some suggestions. I have tried using three different brands of blank cdrs, through three different programs (iTunes, Sonic, Nero, as well as XP). They are all telling me the same error: Disc write-protected (or closed). I can listen to audio cds and watch DVDs, but not burn them. Annoying, help?

  Thanks for the information! Can I use any plain cardboard box (that doesn't have writing all over it) or do I need to use a special one I purchase from the PO? Are there any specific packaging requirements I might not be aware of?
