Perhaps I'm old, but to me this was little more than a youth club with alcohol. Music was mediocre, cocktail good. Kids hanging around playing table footy.

Had a nice afternoon here watching a chickflick, eating sweet popcorn (cant get that in dk!) and sipping cola. Screen we were in small but perfectly adequate. A nice trip out :)

Went and had their "VIP" check up and also had treatment here.
VIP check up- just bloodtests and chest x ray and cardiogram really. Everything was very rushed and I didnt really feel very VIP..
Treatment was good, GP didnt seem all that great but the gynæe Nguyen Duc Hinh seemed very good.
Treatment and medicines EXPENSIVE with no health cover so BEWARE! Check up only cheap.
Nurses found it hard to take my blood and set up an IV (apparently I have the wrong veins...) Apart from that they were friendly there.

After Mr Dratman's review (and thank you so much for that!) Went to replace my lost glasses. Went all alone, with no knowledge of Vietnamese and everyone was very very helpful. Chose some cool frames, got an eyetest and new lenses all for 510,000 VND ( thats about 15 pounds or 30 usd!)
Have to go back tomorrow to collect mine, but I went there after work, and I think they close at 5pm, so fair enough really.
A good find sir!

Had to get my Danish drivers license translated. Embassy very helpful, the embassy website also has a LOT of useful info on- some in english. When entering embassy I was asked to show ID, then there is just a small waiting room with two glass windows. They were very efficient and my drivers license was ready next day.

Havent been jabbed for this- didnt have time- is it necessary and if so where can I get this vaccine in hanoi?
So I have no idea on apartment rental prices in Hanoi, and Im on the verge of signing a 6 month lease at 900USD a month. Is this too much to pay for an apartment? It's in a block in Ba Dinh, and although dirty (landlord says he'll clean) It's all very new with a supermarket/bank at the base. It's 3 beds 3 baths(!) Is this reasonable?
I have a lot of questions- sorry! But anyone know ow Vietnamese taxes work? I will have to pay vietnamese tax as Im working here over 6 months- but how??!
Ok, I'm ashamed to say it, but all the shopping in different places has lost its fun and right now I just want to go to a mall and indulge in retail therapy and get everything I need there. So where are the malls of Hanoi?
Do you need a card to shop at metro? Can you only shop there if you have a business? How does it work?
Resident and work permits. I read this on the danish embassy website and now I'm a bit worried that I dont seem to have anything resembling a residency or work permit. Is this info accurate? ANd if so what do I do??

according to http://www.maidinvietnam.com/cost.htm
MAID HIRE
Actual cost depends upon what specific work functions are required ( i.e. Housekeeping, Child Care, Cookery, language etc), hours worked per day and days per week. As a general guideline, the average monthly charge for a "full time Maid" working an 8 hour day with 1 hour for lunch, 5 days per week is from US$ 210 to US$ 260 depending upon the maid's language ability. Part time service is prorated subject to the duties required. Short term hire starts from US$ 2 per hour. In Vietnam the law requires all local staff to be paid an addition month's salary for the Tet New Year holiday. Other bonuses are discretional subject to monthly performance reports. Overtime runs at US$ 2 per hour on weekdays and US$ 3 per hour on weekends and public holidays.
HTH!

ATM cards with Visa/mastercard and AMEX work. Not all ATMS accept VISA so if the first bank doesnt work, there will be an ATM round the corner that does. The most you can withdraw at one time is 2 million Dong, and you can only do that 3 times a day. The large stores accept most cards but for everyday use its best to carry cash money.
I bank between Denmark and Hanoi, and I use HSBC, they only have one branch in Hanoi at sun tower, but the atm card works everywhere of course. The transfer fees seem reasonable, and the service is fast and fantastic IMO. Transfer time is 2 working days.
Banks are not open saturdays so be aware of this.

Free? its a BANK! :) I paid the costs danish side (around 20 dollars) and HSBC charged me around 5 or 10 dollars I think.. But it was all worth it for the service I recieved, they are very quick and efficient- the fastest thing I've done in Hanoi so far... :)

Apology accepted Tamvong, as I'm not sure how many Vietnamese are capable of translating Danish and would work Vietnamese and Danish hours (until 10pm at night.) I work very hard. I just wanted to spend my Christmas with people I care for. But I understand the business issues. I'm afraid I think more like a human than a businessman but I am of course learning. If it had been agreed I wouldnt have minded but to tell me Christmas has been cancelled this close I feel is a bit cruel. Anyway I have now sorted out the problem. Thank you all for your help.

no no no... I am also on blogspot and its FINE. Firstly you can access the editing screens fine- just not the blog itself- and if you want to see comments you can see them in your mail (if you choose that option). I find this happens from home. And should you wish to see it from home- there are many cloaking sites- google to find them- that will let you in on a proxy server.
Now talking of proxy servers, I find that many cafes and hotels operate on these anyway so you can access these sites form there. For example I can always see my blog site in full from highlands cafes.... hope this helps blog on :)
