Where can I buy a good beanbag?
Would like a good, large, comfy bean bag to relax and watch tv or play games or take naps.
Any recommendations for a good pedicure place in Hanoi(hopefully with not exquisite pricing)? For my girlfriend I swear! She's worried places here will (literally) butcher her feet, and she's Vietnamese so there must be some truth there....somewhere.
Anyone recommend basketball places? Would like a more private place to practice work, on my schools, and then a good place for a good game. Now that I'm any good, but VN style of ball is no fun. More suited for Western "rules" and understanding. Don't mind paying a premium for both, having fun is important.

You can also try Play-Asia.com and try to have it shipped here.
Does XBox Live even work from VN? (Thinking of getting a 360 myself)

You need to check the voltage on your power supply, there may be a switch on the back to switch voltage. That voltage needs to match the outlet power, or you will need a power adapter.
If you have a laptop, voltage is normally not an issue, but for a desktop it could be one.
In response to the question: At home I plug my computer into an adapter and a power strip, but it is heating up quite quickly. Although I have lived overseas a number of times, th...

How can I tell if I have bed bugs (and eliminate them)?
I'm already washing my sheets. I got bit yesterday even without them and had Jumbo running.

Hey Chunnie, looks like the Tran Huy Lieu place is dead- tried to find it and even called, could not get there. Will check out My Dinh. As for Rossano, not so good, cheap in price, but real lousy for quality.

Well, maybe I couldn't find the Tran Huy Lieu place, but it's there. Went to the other Uma, nice place, but too small for the beanbags.
L'oeuf's phone is dead or turned off (sounds like it's a cell)

Maybe because I'm American and I'm used to paying exorbitant fees and also I have health insurance here (luckily), but I think it's fine.
Let's say you have same pricing. Pricing would become higher, not lower. Fewer Vietnamese could then afford to go there, although I'm sure very few people can afford to go there now already.
I think the 2 tier system helps subsidize help for Vietnamese natives, and this hospital really is meant to be a hospital for Vietnamese people, unlike SOS. My feeling is that the government would not allow them to do a single tier structure anyway.

Anywhere around Hoan Kiem will be great for nightlife. But if you're going to work at the airport, maybe you want to live around Ciputra, which is about half the distance to the airport compared to Hoan Kiem. The Old Quarter can be around 50 mins to an hr to the airport, imagine going there every day. To me a one hour ride in VN is like a 3 hr bumpy ride in the US.

My contract is in USD, but I pay in VND. Last month I had to pay a higher amount, which I realize now is perfectly fair. The bank rank is not the real rate, and my landlord is not trying to screw me, but is trying to avoid being screwed.
In response to the question: My rent contract is in USD but I pay in VND, I think this is pretty standard and wasnt a problem at all until last month. At that time my landlord...

If you buy a used one, no problem, it'll already have a license plate.
If you buy a new one, more difficult, much more difficult to register as a foreigner.
As for drivers license, you should get one if you're going to be here for a long time, but really doesn't matter.

Hanokiwi, you were able to do it at the French Hospital? I was told only certain Vietnamese hospitals applied, and I had to go to Bach Mai. Not a fun process, really filthy place, but I know that's due to lack of money.

Deep question!
Hanoi:
Slower, less "crowded" environment. More quiet. Better for families in a way. Even though there's 4M people here, it feels slower and less hectic. Hanoi has nice lakes and parks, I feel like it is more scenic, or there is a certain more of a romanticism.
Saigon: (TPHCM)
More western, more places to eat. If you like nightlife, western style, HCM is the place. HCM feels more of a "concrete city", but that may not really be true- there are no lakes, feels less natural.
Many more westerners in Saigon.
Costs for both cities are probably the same in the end.
Regarding jobs, teaching English is an exceptionally high paying position (min $20USD/hour). If you want a regular "office" job, I think those'll be harder to find if you want premium VN wages unless you have a specific skill set that is way beyond someone here (knowing English is not necessarily that skill set).
Salaries are higher in Saigon vs Hanoi, and competition for jobs is higher there as well.
