Can someone tell me if there is a good place to do Yoga in Hanoi? I'm especially looking for Vinyasa Flow classes. I found one place on the (Yoga Hanoi, I believe) but it appeared to be closed for the moment.
Hi all,
I'm planning on heading up to Sapa for the long weekend for a motorbike trip for 3-4 days. I would love some advice on a few things:
1) where can I get a good map of the Lao Cai area in Hanoi?
2) What are the must-see sights in the area?
3) Anything else we should know before leaving?
Hi all,
I broke some of my favorite pieces of jewelry earlier this year and am wondering if there are any places here that do jewelry repair. Thanks so much!

I saw Kettle Chips in the Citimart in Hanoi Towers yesterday. No salt and vinegar, however. Let me know if you find them!
In response to the question: Can anyone tell me where I can get a nice bag of Salt & Vinegar crisps? The Kettle ones are half decent but the shops seem to restock every 2 or more ...

Just as an FYI, if you use Unikey, you type the vowel you want and then another letter which will add either a vowel mark or tone. Here are some of the most important functions.
Dot under a letter = j
cap on top of vowel = double vowel
đ = double d
ơ = ow
ỏ = or
õ = ox
down tone mark = f
up tone mark = s
good luck!
In response to the question: Does anyone know how to type Vietnamese characters in Word? The Microsoft website is no help and I've googled for it and all I can find is reference ...

You should be able to find skim milk at any of the supermarkets and also at the more upmarket/foreigner-targeted food shops. However, you can only get boxed parmalat-style skim milk (Greenfields is a good brand), not fresh skim milk. The Fivimart on Tran Vu almost always has some, and I'm sure that Citimart, L's place, or Veggies would also have some.
In response to the question: Does anyone know where you can buy skim milk in Hanoi? I've been looking around but haven't been able to find any. Thanks...

I second the answer about Victory. The good thing about them is that they do not try to cheat people and if you ask whether or not a DVD is good quality, they will be honest. In fact, their standards of what good quality is is quite high. I recently bought a DVD set that was only "ok" according to them. While the menu is a bit problematic, the picture etc. has been perfect. There is also a good place on the little street with all the restaurants that's between the Cathedral and Hoan Kiem Lake. (Sorry, I can't for the life of me remember what it's called).
In response to the question: Anyone have any favorite places to buy DVD movies and TV shows? Just moved here for a couple of years and need a touch of home....

Just as an FYI, houses are cheaper than apartments. If you want an apartment that comes furnished in a nice location, especially if the place has a guard or something like that, you can expect to pay over $1000. If you want to pay less, you need to compromise on something, be it light, location, style, etc.
In response to the question: Hello, I'm an American and I will be arriving in Hanoi on January 5. I will need an apartment or house for rent. I would prefer something with tw...

Most people either get Mobiphone or Vinaphone. I've never heard that there's a significant difference between them. Getting a sim is quite cheap here, in anycase.
In response to the question: Sim cards?? Which company has the best price and coverage? I will arrive in Hanoi soon and need what options I have. Cheers...

I went to Bat Trang this weekend and next to the market found a little studio where for 10,000 VND they would let you throw a pot. My friend and I knew a little about pottery, but it looked like they would at least help you center and (maybe) teach you a bit if you looked lost or asked. However, they definitely don't speak English. We didn't keep any of our pots, but we noticed that some of the other people who had been throwing with us came back later and were glazing their pots. It was hand wheels only, but it was a lot of fun if you want to play around or get some practice.
In response to the question: Hi everybody! I'll be in Hanoi for quite some time and I'd really like to learn the Vietnamese art of pottery (wheel-throwing, handbuilding, glazing a...

A friend of mine had a keg party with bia hoi beer. I think she just went down the street to the nearest bia hoi place and asked them to sell her a keg (make sure they show you how to work it and give you a hose to pour it out). It's a bit messy, but it was a lot of fun.
In response to the question: Hi there, I am having a house warming party with quite a few individuals. Do you have any idea how I would go about getting beer kegs from somewhere ...

Or if you're feeling particularly cheap, you can go to Quang Trung St by Lenin Park, where they sell lots of rattan furniture. You can get chairs, little tables, etc. They tend to smell a bit and aren't great for inside but are perfect for outdoor furniture that you don't care much about.
In response to the question: I am new to Hanoi and I want to buy some outdoor stuff (BBQ, furniture). Any one know where I should look (anywhere in VN)? What are the best magazine...

To continue what's been said before, a REAL Mexican place would be a huge addition to Hanoi (and probably to all of South East Asia). In my experience, good Mexican food is almost impossible to find outside of the Americas. If someone opened a place here where the Mexican food was recognizably Mexican to even the most discerning, it would be great!!
In response to the question: This is a survey i know it's not a place to do it but i really need your opinions, so the more answers you give, the better my survey is. Thank you in...

I don't suppose your friend or you want to buy one? My roommate left a few months ago and left behind an electronic keyboard (full-size) that she wants me to sell for her. If you are interested, let me know. I'm not sure what price she's asking yet.
In response to the question: I have a friend coming to hanoi who is training to be a concert painist. She has been given a grant to come research the effects of French Colinizatio...

It also depends on who your employer is and whether they can deposit $$ in your home account. I have not opened an account here, but my employer is US-based and deposits into my citibank account at home. There are two citibank ATMs here that I use to withdraw, though I have noticed recently that citibank started charging me a foreign fee despite using their own ATMs. As this is usually around $.60, it's not too bad.
In response to the question: How do US expats handle finances in Hanoi? Which banks provide the best services considering convenience, timeliness and fees? Does your US bankcard...

I also watched VTV3 a bit today and it was not at all exciting. Does anyone know if any bars or hotels are broadcasting something a little higher quality?
