I actually really liked this hotel when I first got there, and I was a guest here for over a month.
The rooms are large, airy and well-appointed, they are cleaned daily and all the staff are pleasant and helpful.

With that being said, there is a serious problem right now at the Hanh Hotel and it forced me to cut short my stay about two months.

Both in front and behind the hotel are on-going construction sites, and in particular the building behind Hanh's is adding two new levels.

As a result, the noise and dust is unbelievable and the racket starts at 6AM (SERIOUSLY) and lasts until at least 7pm. While it's not Hanh's building, it is her SISTER'S, yet she refuses to ask them to hold off on the noise until at least 7:30am. She refuses to do anything!!

I won't say I understand all the ins and outs of family interaction here in Vietnam, but this is one situation where ALL her guests are miserable, yet she will not address the issue with her sister/brother-in-law.

All to say, if you're thinking of booking at the Hanh Hotel, get a good notion of the neighbourhood construction scene unless the sound of cement being jackhammered three feet from your head is what you like to wake up to at 6am EVERY morning.

I'm relatively new to Hanoi and I have a question about the protesters (mainly older countryside women) who sit on the corner of Phan Dinh Phung, at the edge of a park, in front of a big government building.

I'm curious why they are protesting. I tried to approach them with a Viet kieu friend of mine and we were shooed away by plainclothes police.

I'm not looking for trouble or problems with the government, just curious about what these people are protesting.

(Good on the local authorities for letting them gather there just about everyday with their signs)

Hi all,

Does anyone have an address for the B52 Museum? I know it used to be a shabby park with plane wreckage but apparently there's a fancy new building somewhere on Hoang Hoa Tham.
But where???
If anyone has any contact info I'd greatly appreciate it.

It's funny that virezo mentioned Ngoc Son Temple, because that is the exact one my friend and I are discussing.
She's been asked to pay everytime she's been, but I've never been asked once. Strange.

I've had books shipped to me that were "confiscated" by customs and I was told the reason was that the materials contained within were illegal in Vietnam. Under the law, all “cultural materials deemed unsuitable to Vietnamese society” can be withheld by customs. I only found out they were taken because I had a friend call all over the damn country for me.

FYI, the books were about 20th century Southeast Asian politics and Buddhism.

My friend eventually ended up speaking to someone at the ministry, I guess it must have been the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. I'll call her tonight and ask!
