This shop has got my cats' favourite food, lots of playthings, and I even bought a great climbing tree there.
Very friendly staff.

If you are checking in at 6 pm, having a confirmed reservation, and you still have to wait for 20 minutes for the housekeeping to clean your room, well......
If it is necessary to cover one complete wall of the room with mirror glass, to prevent guests from developing claustrophobia, you can imagine how small this room must be. The view out of the window shows a "beautiful" backyard.
If you have to have breakfast in a cellar room with no windows, then the location (directly at the Westlake) is of no importance.

The place is comfy, the bar staff understand and speak English, the beer is quite cheap, the music not annoying.
That already qualifies for a better than average spot.
Only problem I have had: everybody drinking there seemed to be working for the good of mankind (NGOs, aid agencies,.....), and since I am only working for my company's profit and not for the environment/food program/ethnic minorities..., I felt a little bit out of place.

I like L's place for a variety of reasons.
First, there is an ATM of ANZ Bank, which most of the time is not empty on the weekends.
Then, they have cat litter and food.
They used to have my favourite SA wine, but sadly no longer.
They have a lot of things other supermarkets do not stock, most important: hairspray.
The prices are a little more than other places, but I rather pay this than a taxi to the next cheaper supermarket.
I tried the food delivery: great!!!! And great prizes, too! Very quick delivery as well!!!

I only drink an espresso sometimes or buy the espresso for home. It is true, the staff are really friendly, and you have the feeling that they really mean it.
And besides: the espresso is great!

Looking for good quality bamboo furniture esp. sofa.
Can help? Tx!
Anybody knows a good and clean place with English speaking staff for laser hair removal?
TX!
I am looking for a veterinarian who is good to my cats. Can you give me a recommendation?
As well I am looking for places selling cat food, especially Royal Canine cat food (the little ones love it!), and litter.
I have bought this great (?) espresso maker from Metro. Never had such a beautiful and complicated coffee machine in my life! On arrival at home I found out that there were only a Thai and a Vietnamese user's manual attached, no English. Both languages I do not master.
I contacted both Metro and Electrolux, to ask for an English manual, both did not answer.
Since then, my beautiful coffee maker is standing around doing nothing. I checked the internet for hours, but there is no online manual as well.
Can anybody help me? Has anybody got the same coffee maker and can copy the English manual for me?
The model is Electrolux EES 200.
Thanks a lot!!!!
Katiti
I have several beloved shoes that are in desperate need of new heels. I do not dare to bring them anywhere, because so far all shoe repairs I had done here in Vietnam were not good.
Can anyone recommend a good place for shoe repairs?

I do not understand the sense of a "black list". You and everybody else who feels like it can share the experiences for everybody to read.
If one person has had a bad (or good)experience, it should not mean that the place should be damned (or praised).
Make up your own mind, use the comments as guidelines.
Feel free to make up your own "black list", but do not expect the rest of the Hanoian community to share your/the black-lists's views.
I -for instance- had a very delightful dinner at Bobby Chinn's and no stomach problem afterwards. Would go there again, AND take my best friend there.

I do not know if the "move" of Tony & Guy is supposed to be to the place the receptionist mentioned when she called me.
For one, I cannot imagine why Tony & Guy would re-name their salon "Yen Chang".
Then, I find it hard to believe that T&G would put their name on a place that doubles as a slimming studio, nail, massage,..........
I do not understand why then they left the professional salon furniture in the place on Hang Bong and chose to use the hammered-together, big-effect-with-least-cost furniture that is in the new place.
Then, It never happened to me that the stylists were double-booked, that is: you had to wait for more than 30 minutes for your "appointment" to start.
My impression of this new place (32 Hang Than, for those who want to look for themselves) is that the only thing in common between T&G and this salon is that some of the staff have worked on 69 Hang Bong before.
Does anybody know if the place on Hang Bong is really closed? I think it it worth a look. Maybe it is still operational, just with different staff.

I am pretty new to Hanoi (I am a Southerner), but I never had any problems with any shipment from abroad in Saigon for many years, Amazon or others. Sometimes a few weeks late, but never lost.
Seems that here in Hanoi things look different. And I just ordered from ebay, trusting in my experiences from Saigon!!!!
My cats are waiting for their prezzie (leopard-print crinkle tunnel!!).
Just hope that Vietnamese people do not appreciate cats' playthings! Otherwise I am in BIG trouble!!!!

My experience is: when it is taken out of a package w/o notification, it is not confiscated but stolen.
You can complain here at the PO, but I think I already know the answer (how do you know it was taken in Vietnam and not somewhere else).
If you receive a parcel here and you pick it up at the PO, you have to check it immediately in the presence of the postal employees, otherwise nobody will accept your complain.
I have had some bad experiences here myself, 50% of my parcels were "lost".
Courier charges are expensive, but so is losing your parcels. Just remember: Shipments with couriers like DHL and others will be subject to all kinds of import duty, which can be as high as 60% of the value for certain items.
Check in advance to avoid disappointment.
Good Luck!

Nghi Tam village is a great place, but - depending where you live - it can be noisy, too. The alleys are pretty small, so your neighbours (and their TV programs etc.) are very close, too.
Flooding as far as I know is only a problem once every 23 years (as recently), though when it rains, the alleys tend to get a bit muddy.
I love the people living there. For me, it is the friendliest place in Hanoi. I do not mind muddy boots and barking dogs. It is worth it.

Dear Hanoijack,
is your question a joke and I did not get it???
Sorry!
If not, pls. reconsider buying a monkey.
Monkeys do not belong in a human household. Please do not create a demand, so that more monkeys are caught or bred in captivity.
Thanks!
