Pretentious Film Nerds has no events coming up in the next month or so.

I saw "Owl and the Sparrow" last week. Lovely film. I'm dropping by Cinematheque today for their family day and then watch "Body of Lies" at Vincom.
We should have a meet up before the year ends, maybe at the Cinematheque Cafe prior to a Paul Newman film show?

I love Lives of Others, seen it a few times, tho I've been too disoriented to see any films during the past weeks... I think I'd be directed by Terry Gilliam or Almodovar... Played by: Who knows...
posté il y a environ 3 semaines par Shezza

Also, I'm wondering... who would play you, in a film of your life?
posté il y a environ 3 semaines par Shezza

I'm going to Owl and the Sparrow on Friday 26 December. It will be my last trip to the cinematheque so it would be good to see others there. As it happened, I was too broke to go to the previous screening too.
I also missed the German films although I've seen The Lives of Others before and thought it was lovely.
What are/have others seeing/seen?
posté il y a environ 3 semaines par thecatsaway

Yeah, I see all your points, but I really didn't have the time to post each film and I've found other people posting schedules really useful in the past...
I will start putting them up individually as soon as I get more time.
For now: if anyone is interested in going to Head On, friday night 8pm at the Goethe Institute, I'm seriously thinking about going ...

Sorry guys, I joined *just* to add the movies to the calendar, but they're not really my cup of tea, so I sort of lost interest in doing it. I'll get back to it again
posté il y a environ 3 semaines par grubby

to emphasize what alpha said, putting individual showings on the event calendar is a way of attracting new pretentious film nerds to this group, among other things.
posté il y a environ 3 semaines par alpha

It's not really spamming the page. Keeping up with other group members on this page is perfectly acceptable, and what the group is for. What is less than ideal, however, is just dumping the schedule on these pages. There is an event entry link to the right that would put the schedule on this group page, the Cinematheque page, and the event calendar. Each film has to be entered separately, but that's what contributing to this community is all about. Anybody up to it?
posté il y a environ 4 semaines par thecatsaway

Oh, AND: I can't make it but the Edge of Heaven (Goethe Institute, Sunday night) is wonderful.
I am definitely going to go to Head-On (Tuesday or Friday) - by the same director.
Sorry for spamming the page...

Hi Shezza!
I have been lonering it up, due to being broke and I'm only JUST not broke now, so I can't make the Owl and the Sparrow, sorry.
However I would be keen for any of the films in the next week at Cinematheque. I have seen Angels in America, but I want to again - I am thinking about going to part one on Sunday night?

Hey you, I've been wondering what you've been up to! Hope you can make it: tix are 100,000VND, reservations to: fvh.films@gmail.com. Send them an email to reserve a seat then pay on the day. I would arrive a bit earlier than 7.30 if possible.
posté il y a environ 4 semaines par thecatsaway

Hey Shezza,
Thanks for posting the Owl and the Sparrow. I would really love to come - is it a normal cinematheque screening, or is it part of something else? Either way, can I meet you there at 7:30?
posté il y a environ 2 mois par Shezza

Yes, isn't The Station Agent gorgeous?
Lei, your brain child is growing!
That sucks that they changed the screening schedule; Sunday is my yoga night :(
I intend to see The Squid and The Whale at 5 pm, followed by a food break, followed by The Visitor at 9 pm. If anyone else is going to either of these screenings, let me know.

Hi I'd like to join this group. I've watched mostly all movies mentioned here but don't mind going to the cinema and seeing them again (and see new movies), then "pretentiously" reviewing them over a cup of coffee with people who have the same taste! So if you have any event coming up, let me know. Cheers! :)

In case any of you are planning to catch the screenings at the Cinematheque today and this weekend, here is their revised screening schedule (for 7-9 November):
NOVEMBER
7 Friday
19:00 THE STATION AGENT
21:00 HEDWIG AND THE ANGRY INCH
8 Saturday
17:00 CHOP SHOP
19:00 THE SQUID AND THE WHALE
21:00 HEDWIG AND THE ANGRY INCH
9 Sunday
17:00 THE SQUID AND THE WHALE
19:00 CHOP SHOP
21:00 THE VISITOR
The Station Agent is a lovely, charming film and I was completely engrossed with the story of Fin and the friends he unexpectedly (and reluctantly) makes after moving into a new neighborhood.

Thanks hinotori! And thanks Shezza for the Australian film schedule.
I've already seen it, but I just want to strongly recommend Ten Canoes from the Australian selection. It's the first film entirely in the aboriginal language and plays completely in pre-colonial times, so it can focus on aboriginal culture without the darker issues of the modern situation. It's completely beautiful.

Hi Nerds,
Here's the info on the Australian films:

Without planning to, I went to "you can count on me" last night and it was really charming.
Later this week they have the Station Agent, which I'd like to go to after Shezza's glowing review, and also Hedwig and the Angry Inch which I know and love (from the same director as Shortbus). I don't have the schedule which is annoying - if anyone does, can you post it?
posté il y a environ 2 mois par Shezza

Faaabulous, how about the screening of Squid Whale next Sunday?
I've got Station Agent on dvd, I love it, it's adorable. I might see Tom McCarthy's new one on the 10th.

The Station Agent
The Squid and the Whale
Chop chop
We'll probably catch the Thursday and Sunday screenings.

Yay, American Independent films starting tomorrow! I've been meaning to see The Squid and the Whale, and possibly a couple of others... what are you guys seeing?
This series is followed, I believe, by the Australian film fest (?!)

Where and what time is the dinner, thecatsaway?
posté il y a environ 2 mois par thecatsaway

Ooh good to know Hinotori, as I had not yet actually tried to get tickets... I'll ask there tonight and see if I can get more information.
See you at the newbies dinner tomorrow night?
posté il y a environ 2 mois par hinotori

My partner and I are not pretentious film nerds but we do love watching films. We're both members of the Cinematheque and he tried getting tickets for the Ken Loach film but it seems all the tickets are gone. The lady at the box office did say, however, that we could try our luck and show up on Sunday since not everyone shows up for the screenings. So that's what we'll do. See you all there!

Ok, so I have been super-pro-active and posted two events! (I'm only working part-time at the moment... haha).
Shezza and I are meeting at 8:30 in the Cinematheque cafe (so.. half an hour before Hidden) if anyone else wants to join.
Oh, also, groovyfox: if by 'the event' you mean the October meet-up - yes I am going. See you there?
posté il y a environ 3 mois par thecatsaway

I still haven't seen a full feature Ken Loach, so I'm quite excited about this opportunity to remedy that. For those who couldn't view the schedule, "It's a Free World" is on this Sunday at 8pm at the Cinematheque. It's free, but it says something about picking up your ticket before-hand (I'm not sure this is necessary... ).
Anyway! I'm definitely going. I would adore it if people would join.
I am also interested in this mysterious 'friday night' film and will be private messaging accordingly...
posté il y a environ 3 mois par groovyfox3001

regardin' loach , i seen a couple of loach. the one i really like called sweet 16
any1 like kevin spacey?
thanks
posté il y a environ 3 mois par Shezza

I would be interested in the Ken Loach one. I couldn't download the schedule and even though I'm a member of the Cinematheque, I didn't get an email about it. Anyway, you probably know that two weeks of French films are ending soon. I'm planning to go on Friday night and if anyone wants to join me, just send me a private message :P

Fantastic! Hi. I just realised there is a UK Film festival thing being hosted by the British Council, English screenings at Cinemateque. Also, it's FREE. Information is on here: http://hanoigrapevine.com/
Let me know if any of those movies interest you (several interest me). It starts this weekend.
