We are going to Sunset Bar (Intercontinental Hotel). A Dj from Bangkok Bed SupperClub is coming, so should be a good night.The Entrance tickets are 30$ (including 1 drink) though. Anyone interested to join?

The following establishments have events organized for tomorrow night: Hotel Nikko, Melia Hotel, Daewoo Hotel, Sofitel Plaza, Sofitel Metropole, Hilton Hanoi and the Press Club. I'm sure there are other places with something planned for New year's Eve but those are the places I've checked up on. I've always enjoyed the monthly shindigs in the Press Club so that is where I will be headed tomorrow evening.

Sounds nice, but let's do a better job of it than the last time... One option might be a lunch or dinner at Bia Minh. They're putting on a set menu (you can choose either Viet or Western) for 90,000VND and a Halida special - buy 3 get 1 free (course they're cheap as to begin with). December 20 - 24. The nice roof top would accommodate a large group.

Hi all, I am going to be moving to Hanoi on 29th December (a strange time to move, I know). I was just wondering when you guys willl be next meeting after that as it would be good to meet some new people once I get there. Enjoy the trip to Tam Coc and Hoa Lu. The Tam Coc boat ride is best taken when the weather is cooler (in summer, you feel like you're being dried in the sun---like laundry but without the benefit of fabric softener). Don't let the touts ruin the experience (be firm!)and remember to tip/ provide refreshments for the person/s rowing your boat.

Haha, you're so adorable Shezza. That's not a monkey. That's a lemur. It's a Tarsier, and it's primarily insectivorous. It's not rabid; its eyes are big to enable it so see in the dark better because it's a nocturnal animal. It's small enough to fit on your open palm. :-) How about mid-December to Halong? Interested in Sapa?

Boy, the photo of that rabid monkey is really creepy. Not nice : ( If any Newbies are interested in getting out of town and taking some day/overnight/weekend trips around late Nov - early Dec, let me know. In particular Halong Bay and Cuc Phuong National Park (Ninh Binh) are on the agenda but any (non-flooded) site of beauty and wonder in Northern Vietnam is on the table. And that concludes the lesson on prepositions of place...

Mmm, yes. I'm in the mood for Mao's... a solid place to introduce the Newbies to Hanoi's drinking culture. How about we sit upstairs for a bit, maybe followed by some street food later on? Important to celebrate the group turning 30 I think.

Found myself in this group via thecatsaway's film lovers group (hi!). Not really a newbie anymore (6 months in Hanoi now) but would love to join some, if not all, of this group's activities.

*** Saturday 6 pm - 7.30 pm Newbies get together at Fusion, 25 Truc Bac. Head up to the second floor. A range of stuff from the menu is being served - salad, naan, samosa, curry, biryani and kebab. Just throw a bit of dong my way according to your appetite and your means. When this is done check the new ahnoian events calander to find time date etc, i will also post it on the thread. Newbies i am wanting to organise a cyclo pub crawl, i know it has been done before, but not by us. So i am thinking if i can get the numbers i approach 4 bars which will offer newbie happy hours, we psend an hour in each venue, with a 7pm start and end up some where like the funky buddah or tet bar as the final one for the night and kick on until the boys in green say otherwise. Hey alpha and newbies, I posted that event you're referring to. I'm a bit confused because my page says that there're no events now for the Hanoi Newbies. Where is the event calendar you're checking? As for an update on said event, I think some of us might meet up before the show. Still trying to work out the details on that, but I'll let y'all* know when/if we come up with something. In regards to the person who posted the event through this group for the live music at the American Club, we're happy to see that you're taking charge of the group and planning events. However, check the event calendar when it comes to things like that. They are often already posted. Like in this instance. ms. pride, it's a regular thing, every thursday, 5:30 to 9 pm at bacchus corner in Tong Dan st. All we have to do is go there.

I love the fact that just about everyone who was in the thread that ended up starting this group has joined the group! :) Feel free to plan any events you want to try out! Event ideas: hanging out at cafes, testing out new restaurants or introducing tried-and-true favorites, club- or bar-hopping, skating at the park, checking out the sights or the movies, putting together a house dinner or dance party... go wild! :)
