Rentals - West Lake
Tsc & Janine

My family and I are moving to Hanoi for at least the next two years. I am looking for advice on who to contact and how to find rentals (houses or apartments) nearby West Lake. We are looking for a lace with at least five 'bedrooms' some kind of garden and/or terrace, garage and an out building/large shed.

All advice and recommendations would be most welcome.

In South Africa

With a criteria like that, i hope you have deep pockets. Only the big villa's around west lake match, and they are few and far between, and snapped up pretty quick. Also the villa's are not big on gardens and outbuildings, space is money here.

Best bet, could be Ciputra where we live, the villas are decent, with little gardens, but this is a gated community, so free from the mad streets, plus has play grounds and free space to walk, also the apartments have a pool, which is good if you have kids. Its at the far end of west lake, but no lake view unless you live in the apartments.

As for websites, there are many around, iam suprised if no one has contacted yet from this posting.

As Natinnam says it can get expensive for that kind of house. I looked at about 50 and all but 3 didnt have outside space or a garage/parking. In the end I got lucky and got one at well under market price as I was willing to sign up several months before it was available. I think for this kind of spec you will be looking at $3500/month unless it is of a low standard

Yes, i've been here for 4 years and the market price is just insane at the moment.

Not my favorite choice, but for family with kids Ciputra might be the place to look.

Just be aware and careful with agents, they will say "yes...yes" to anything you ask and say, but it does not mean that its true at all.

If any repair or installation is required, make sure it's in the contract and on both contract: the fake one and the official one. Yes, 2 contracts, that's how it works most of the time!

Hi folks,

just an update, still spinning our wheels here (in Hamburg) due to visa complications. As of now, we will depart for Hanoi on the 14th of June and as soon as we settle, will start inspecting places that have been suggested to us.

Thanks one and all for your advice and recommendations.
