I'm curious about xmas day buffets and got as far as calling the Sheraton who quoted me $55p.p. for food only. I'm guessing the usual suspects will be charging about the same?

Check out the Hilton on the top of Le Thanh Tong, they're doing a traditional Christmas buffet (turkey and several trimmings) for about $40 with free-flow soft drinks and beer. I went in there yesterday to ask them about their Christmas options and they were very helpful.

Well that would be an improvement on the Hilton's effort for last year when the kids didn't even get one soft drink included in the hefty price!!!!!. The Hilton's food is lovely (for adults) but the cost and choice for kids last year put me off ever going for Christmas again. If I could get past that they did offer some bean bags and a tv with cartoons on the mezzanine floor but I didn't find the restaurant had a cosy Christmassy feel....

Had a decent time at Jaspa's last year, but to be honest, most are all the same, i find it's the people you have the meal and get pissed with makes the day.

Would anyone like to join me at the snake village for Christmas? Let's eat Satan to celebrate the birthday of Jesus.
I'll bring the eggnog.

Halia's Christmas Day buffet brunch is 38++ (no alcohol--they'll serve iced tea, i think), 58++(with alcohol) and 18++ for kids 10 years and below (kiddies get a glass of juice).

apparently with an economic crisis messing with everyone, christmas is the perfect opportunity to stick the arm in - sheraton, as you mentioned, is a good example of this 'festive spirit'! i also looked around and hilton seems to be about right for the price and is kid friendly - i don't know how good their egg nog is!!

Atomic marked this as a good answer Not sure where the best deal is for hungry expats on Christmas day, but if you check out Blue Dragon Children's Foundation (www.bdcf.org) they can feed a disadvantaged kid here for a week for AUD$10 (about US$8). Maybe best idea is to go to a slightly cheaper 5 star restaurant and donate the difference. If nothing else, it'll make us all feel less guilty about the 10 extra pounds we all gain over the Xmas period!

El Patio at Melia is doing buffet lunch on the 24th, 25th and 26th with beer and wine included for $24++. Dinner is $28++.

Kinda curious why they wouldn't publish the price without the silly ++. Wouldn't it just be better to say "drink and eat as much as you want for $35! No tax!"?
I guess games are sometimes more important than reality in some quarters.

Right. Is ++ much more money than + ? And how much more than $35 is $35+?
