October Winners & The November Meet Up!

What a month! We launched the newest version of the New Hanoian (thanks for all the very helpful feedback) and had record setting traffic levels to go with it. Even more important, the community has been out in force adding their bit to the site, making sure that we all benefit from the ever increasing savvy of those who know best. You. Nowhere was this increase in participation more apparent than on the reveiw pages. With more than 160 new reviews written in the month of October, we're quickly steamrolling toward that magical 1000th review written. Who will it be? That remains to be seen. What we do know, however, is who is in need of some serious recognition. Here are the user contribution awards for the last month! To begin, we need to give a word of thanks to the incomparable Dratman. Always one of our most active and enthusiastic members, he recently returned to Canada after a year of living in Hanoi and traveling throughout the region. He will be sorely missed. Perhaps we will be lucky enough to see him head this way again, but even if that isn't in the cards, many a New Hanoian will continue to benefit from his additions to our site. Next time you're out, tip a glass in his honor...and if you're one of the winner's this month, you'd better tip several. With the thirty new reviews he put up, one of you would have been left out in the cold if he'd been around to collect another prize. To begin, we have a repeat winner. Whereas last month he stormed into the winner's circle with a mass of new contributions, this month he returns due to a single bit of much appreciated writing. Snellopy's review of Indochine has been selected by the New Hanoian community as the most appreciated review written for the month of October. By clicking on the various links below the review (well-written, funny, accurate, useful), you all let us know that this was best of the lot. To reward this highly valued member of our community, we're going to be sending him and a trio of friends to Goldmalt for a night of bottomless brew. And this is no ordinary brew. Made completely in-house, this brewpub is one of the original beer drinking destinations for what is becoming a flourishing beer scene. Snellopy's gang of four will drink to their livers' content at Goldmalt. Next up is a long time member of the site returned with a whole new batch of his takes on what is and isn't hot in Hanoi. Teacher_Ed added to his already considerable list of contributions and will be reaping the benefits. To celebrate, he'll be treated to a bottle of his choice at Tuna...one of Hanoi's chillest new Old Quarter destinations. With three floors of lounge space to wile the night away in, he'll have his choice among many bottles on display behind the glowing bar. Grey Goose, Jose Cuervo, Jack Daniels, or many others. He can take out a crowd of friends for a nice start to the evening, or hoard it all for himself. His return to stellar reviewing form means that this night at Tuna is his to direct. Finally, a user who burst onto the scene with a flurry of reviews. Suddenpaws made sure to distinguish herself with a breadth and depth of writing that made our difficult decision this month a little easier. She and five friends will enjoy dinner, drinks, and a smoke in Hanoi's most recent destination for a night on the town Arabian style. The lucky six will be heading to Thousand Night and Night. They'll start off with dinner from their menu of Arabian cuisine. Following that will be a pair of cocktails in the upstairs lounge. And the centerpiece, a session around one of their authentic sheeshas. With a variety of tobaccos imported from the Middle East, they'll find the perfect cap to a complimentary night. For Thousand Night and Night, it will be a chance to show one of Hanoi's newest reviewers what they are all about. Three more worthy winners, we could not ask for. We're excited to see this boom in reviews and overall participation to continue as we move forward. Keep an eye out in a couple weeks for the next round of prizes that will be up for grabs at the end of the month. Also, it's time to gear up for the next New Hanoian meet up. With warm and sunny days on the decline, we've decided that it's best to use these last pleasant November evenings to revisit our site's roots and stage our next meet up where the whole meet up idea got off the ground in the first place. Accordingly, the November 17th New Hanoian Meet Up will be held at Bia Hoi Zin. Easy to find, this comfy little beer joint is next to Ba Mau Lake off of Le Duan as you approach Dai Co Viet. Take Le Duan south from the edge of the Old Quarter until you are nearing the large intersection with Dai Co Viet. A couple hundred meters before you get there, there will be a turn (right) that takes you up over the railroad tracks and to the edge of the lake. Keep to the left side of the lake and look for the large "Bia Zin" sign. This will be a truely Hanoian experience with very affordable brew and great food. We at the site have favored this joint for quite a while and are sure we'll all have a rocking good time. As always, feel free to bring any and all friends. We'll all be looking for you there. The Staff of the New Hanoian
