I stayed here for a few nights and liked many things about it. The central location and clean and comfortable rooms being the best feature, the breakfast was the worst. It's not the cheapest in the neighborhood but it is a good option.

I've eaten food from 2 Deli locations and think this one is by far the best. The fare here is a little different than the other but the Western stuff is all basically the same. I have have probably eaten thru the entire menu and can recommend their roasted pork sandwiches, chicken skewers, and banana and carrot cakes.
I haven't had problems with delivery or any whimsical charges. As a matter of fact, these guys are fast, friendly and efficient. Maybe those having problems with other locations should give these kids a bell.

Though a dedicated resident of Hanoi, I ventured to HCMC and found a few fun and friendly places to drink without getting accosted by hostesses. Bread & Butter was by far the best for many reasons - a good location, cool folk hanging out, reasonable prices, great Huda beer, and a really friendly and helpful barkeep to cap it all off. They also have a solid food menu and do a Sunday roast which rocked my world.
Keep one cold for me, Dan. And thanks!

I got all excited when I saw the cash being dumped into the renovation of this place in the summer and thought it might be my new local once opened. I've been busy and complacent but finally decided to check it out last night.
I'm not really into filthy bar whores, paid to be interested and asking questions which are none of their fucking business when I'm drinking beer with a friend. I also don't enjoy karaoke-grade Filipino bands, belting out Celine and Whitney at incredibly stupid levels. Maybe this stuff appeals to the obese middle-aged Western businessman, or maybe the Korean hagwon owner who enjoys being fed fruit at the bar while ordering his third bottle of whiskey - they were all there and loving the attention.
shit.hole.

I gave the other Mondo 2 stars for the overwhelming "meh" factor, but think this one is pretty okay in a weird homage to 1980's New Jersey Italian joints. Seriously. The decor would make Carmella Soprano proud and the weird music selections are cool. Make sure to see the room all the way to the back of the restaurant, beyond the fish tank. Now that's somethin'!
We had pizza, and while it came with peas and corn, it was a damn good crust and decent cheese mix. Dunno about the American-style stuff, but do think it was totally adequate.
The one thing that kinda creeps me out about this place is that local couples love to come here and do everything but stick it in on the banquettes, and you can't help but observe. Hand holding and hugs and kisses and strokes of the upper thigh are nice and all, but c'mon! Lay-off the mocktails and save your dong for a gd hotel. tyvm.

Where can I buy it?
I'm looking to buy a DVD player with a USB jack. Any ideas where I might find one? I saw the recent post and responses re. Big C and Metro, but I'm a little short on directions and locations as I'm relatively new and unfamiliar with the city.
Thanks muchly.

Hot summer days make me so parched around noon, I mean 4 or 5 in the afternoon. Where might one find the best happy hours in this wonderful city? I'm not a cocktail drinker so beer and food specials are really what I'm after.

I'm looking to buy a plant, specifically a Phalaenopsis orchid and don't know were to look.
I see the women on the streets peddling lots of stuff but nothing that resembles an orchid.
Why do people constantly list their rooms for rent with an APARTMENT or HOUSE for rent heading?
It's annoying and a complete waste of time for those seeking something other than a flatshare.
Fix it, please?
Thanks.
Do they exist in Hanoi? Or do I have to go to a weird tank place and pay stupid prices?
2 years in and it's almost over. Kinda unbelievable really. I know of the AmCham party on Weds am and the Fusion one at noon. Is there anything else happening on election eve? Where's everyone gonna be the night of or the day after?

Why would a prospective landlord claim the electricity in their beautiful hou came with a 20% foreigner surcharge? And how could they get away with charging it if the bill went to the tenant?

I've seen bamboo ones at the shops where Quang Trung ends at Tran Nhan Tong. They should be able to make you some within a week or so if not in-stock.
In response to the question: Does anyone know where I can buy a 3 or 4 panel folding screen room divider?...

Dunno where to buy it, but can highly recommend the folks at 27 Nguyen Cong Tru for dye jobs. 30,000vnd turned a raindrop stained pair of khakis into a totally presentable new pair of black trousers.
In response to the question: Hi does anyone know where to buy Fabric Dye?...

Funny, La Place's curry is one of the best I've had here. Crazy, I know.
Grant - Khazanna does a good job, but FS45's curries, and sauces in general suck the butt.
Re. La, Sawasdee, and Nisa - I've never been and dunno, but will try soon. Thanks! Sweetie cutie Sanrio Japanese curries aren't my thing.

HATED Korea, loved Asia.
Vietnam called and I answered.
I chose Hanoi over the other cities because of:
1)Weather/seasons
2)Architecture
3)Population
I spent a few days in HCMC when I first arrived and couldn't be happier about my decision. HCMC is vibrant and wonderful, but it's not Hanoi.

I'm just curious why anyone moaning about CNN and the commercials and delay would be seeking critical info there instead of online. Head scratcher.

The only reason I remember Dutch is the cartoonish packaging with the lady in the funny hat. Like this:

Funny that I can't find an image of it. Royal Lassie Mills Avena turns up nothing, unless my google skills have turned to suck.

Suggestion - build a relationship with one trustworthy cab driver, get his number and use him for all of your trips around town where you need cargo space, to Noi Bai, or just a ride back from the bia hoi a few nights a month. It's made my life here much easier and less stressful.
