Hi! Some of my friends and I work weekends, so we can never join your trips : ( We would like to mountain bike around Sapa for a few days days within the next month or so, and are looking for some advice on how to plan this trip. Is it better to go with a tour or devise a plan of our own? Can we rent bikes in Sapa or would we have to bring them on the train from Hanoi? Would we need a guide? Where are the best places for cheap eats and accommodation? Any tips would be most welcome. Cheers!
Is it better to go with a tour or devise a plan of our own? Sapa town is a touristy place. The town offers many types of services. I suggest you to make a plan of your own because it's more economical and more fun.
Can we rent bikes in Sapa or would we have to bring them on the train from Hanoi? There are numberious motorbikes and mountain bikes rental places everywhere downtown Sapa and they offer decent prices, so no need to bring your bikes with u. The cost to put ur bikes on the train can be more expensive than renting a bike there. I have been to Sapa a several of time and I normally rent motorbikes from a local guy who can speak a little English. Forgot his name but it's his cell #: 0916053092. He maybe know some good bicycle shops to suggest u.
Would we need a guide? If u want to make things easier for u, go for it hiring a local tour guide. But for me personally, I rather to discover things on my own.
Where are the best places for cheap eats and accommodation? Cheap eats: somewhere inside a big wet market downtown Sapa, u can't miss it. They serve all kind of local food in there and they charge u local prices. (breakfast, lunch and dinner)
Accommodation: I stayed at the gecko guest house and was pretty happy with the room and their services. Nice, character, simple place, and decent price (I paid $10/night I think.)
Hi everyone, Bellow is the list of 28 travelers: Driver Passenger Dave Quyen Michiel Nga Tim Tamara Stephen Dung Nick Son Nico Devon An Julian Mai Phuong Ming Matt Florence Zoom Becki Mig Catherine Nick Tony Mark Bernie (She won’t get off from work until 11am that morning, she will travel alone and catch up with us in Cuc Phuong.)
Passengers need to contact to ur drivers to see where to meet for ur ride. We go ahead and meet in front of the opera house and leave @ 7am sharp. (Which means no waiting for anyone after 7am.) Remember to check ur bikes before we meet (tires, full tanks of gas…) And when we get to Cuc Phuong, we all need to fill our gas tanks again, since we need to drive @ least another 45km round trip in the park. (Note: There’s no gas station in the park.)
We will divide to 2 groups: Quyen is the leader of one group and I myself will be zooming with the 2nd group. We need to make sure to stick together on the road.
Yay,our list of travelers so far: Zoom, Quyen, Ming, Mark, Tamara, Nick, Son, Migueic, Simon, An, Matt, Dashal, Nick, Mike, and Tony.
Since I need time to contact with the hotel people and to pair people up on each bike before the trip, the Wednesday of March 10th will be the last day you can join us. I won't have any responsibility to reserve the hotel and do anything for u, if u join us after Wednesday.
Keep that in mind,I'm not a travel agent and I don't get pay from doing this, just would like to get out of the city and having fun with some friends in the countrysides.:)
Hit the "I'm attending" button and let me know whether u want to drive alone or with another person.
I will give all travelers other details when it comes closer to our travel time...

If there are anyone interested, pls drop me a msg and maybe some of the more experienced members can guide me along :)
