Just ate at Fortuna Hotel, great dim sum buffet spread on Sunday. Didn't actually get to eat everything they had because of the large spread. $12.50 per person but drinks are not inclusive(tea is). Starts at 11:00am to 2pm.

I'm feeling incredibly broke at the moment and therefore reluctant to organise a yum cha buffet excursion, although my body clock is suggesting that i should break my fiscal inhibitions possibly around early-mid november (i also just have a lot of work til then).
In the meantime if no such excursions are organised, this place i discovered also has some dumplings. I've been here for noodles a few times (really good by the way), but the other night saw a table being served har cao and sui mai, which could be enough to tide you over til a buffet occasion.

I had all-you-can-eat yumcha in Fortuna Hotel 2 weeks ago and this was my first taste of it in Hanoi since I left Hong Kong last April. The price was 12.50 USD and was worth every cent. If you guys are planning a yumcha meet-up, please let me know :)

Dumpling lovers, can we organise something for next Sunday perhaps? I am going crazy with all the dumpling talk. If anyone else is available, please nominate a place and I'll race you there.

The Daewoo Chinese restaurant does a Dim Sum buffet thing too, I went a couple of weeks ago. It was pretty good too, and not only did you get the run of the dim sum menu, you also got to order from the lunch menu as well, all for the bargain price of $13++.

Ok folks, sorry for the lack of activity, but here is a list of places i've been to that serve dumplings, i've not yet written reviews on them, but that's only a matter of time:
- Chinese Restaurant in the Hanoi Hotel – serves a lunch buffet on weekends 12 or so to 2 I think. I’ve been on a Saturday, and they didn’t have all the food laid out, we had to actually order off the menu, which was a little strange. On the Sundays that I’ve been, all the food is laid out, and you go and collect what you want. They had a variety of meats, roast duck, chicken, pork (the stuff that hangs in chinese shop windows. A few fried dumpling items, congee and noodle soups. The quintessential dumplings, har cao (prawn dumpling) and sui mai (pork dumpling) were delivered to your table, ask for it if it seems missing. They also serve desserts that were not overly exciting. Costs around $16 USD with a beer or soft drink inclusive. Tea is complimentary too.
- Chinese Restaurant in the Hotel Nikko – Similar to the Hanoi Hotel, although I think they may do a buffet everyday, not sure about this. On the weekend they put out a good spread of lots of steamed dumplings which you can go up and collect in their steam baskets. They also serve the variety of chinese meats, congee (rice porridge, chao) and quite a few dishes to be had with rice along with a small selection of dessert and fruit. This one is a little spendier more like $20 without any drinks (tea is free though), but the choice of dumplings and general atmosphere are a cut above the Hanoi hotel.
- Tan Hung Ky (http://newhanoian.xemzi.com/en/venue/show/2128/Tan-Hung-Ky) – Cheaper, a la carte dumplings. Have a basic selection that costs around 20k dong for 4 dumplings, good if you don’t want the whole buffet overeating dining experience.
- Trieu-Phuong-Hong-Kong http://newhanoian.xemzi.com/en/venue/show/475/Trieu-Phuong-Hong-Kong
- I think other big hotels do the whole lunch buffet thing also.
There’s a start anyway, go forth and explore!
