Chị Em aims for a professional, business-oriented approach to microfinance while alleviating poverty through village-specific market solutions and community development initiatives.
Chị Em began operations with a microfinance pilot project offering access to loans, savings and business training to women in four villages in Dien Bien Province, near the Laotian border of Vietnam. By September 2008, the number of target clients is aimed at 500, by September 2009 Chị Em aims to have 1,000 clients and by September 2010 Chị Em aims to have 2,000 clients. The target villages are inhabited mostly by the Black Thai and Kho Mu people, two of the fifty-four ethnic minorities of Vietnam.
