I know that the numbering system of license plates in Vietnam is a code. For example, cars registered in Hanoi have the prefix numbers 29 through 32 on their plates and HCMC has prefix numbers 50 through 59; the letters identify the owner of the car: LD means a company owned vehicle; NG are diplomats; NN are NGOs or dutyfree, and even colors are important -- red plates are army and blue are police, but can anyone break it down further for me? Particularly, which areas of Hanoi correlate to 29,30...
We took the Emotion boat for our cruise of Halong and Bai Tu Long Bays. Apart from the first-class amenities and great food, what impressed us about our boat was the very mystical "ritual" conducted after our early morning tai chi classes. A man (if I remember right, was Australian) had a ritual to "strengthen the inner energy" within each of us. He said that Ha Long Bay was a mystical place that had a lot of the energy of the universe. Because of this, he said it was the perfect place to re...
Anyone heard of Sokagakai in Hanoi among expats? cheers
I know the hippies and animal lovers are going to hate this question, but I was wondering if anyone knew of a place to see cockfighting here in Hanoi? I know it takes place and found a few articles online, but apparently it has to be low key. This is because the government has an issue with gambling that inevitably accompanies the cockfighting, not the cockfighting itself. So has anyone on here seen a cockfight, or know where one could see one in Hanoi?
Today when I was eating lunch in KFC (an occasional guilty pleasure), a rather chubby guy came up to me and my partner's table dressed in a clean sports tracksuit and trainers - not scruffy or undernourished-looking at all - and intimated to me that he was both deaf and dumb. He was pointing to his mouth and putting his hand out, which is the universal gesticulation of the beggar, although he was making several other gestures which I'm guessing were pertaining to his inability to communicate ...
Here's a couple of history questions regarding Trang Tien for one of our local experts or any history buffs out there. 1. Does anyone know the translation for Trang Tien? I've heard that Pho Trang Tien is named after two Sino-Viet words meaning Place(for minting) money. The street was so named because before the French period ( when it became Rue Paul Bert) Trang Tien was the site of the royal mint. 2. If Trang Tien does refer to the Nguyen period mint, where was it located? I've look...

Does anyone know the title of the music being played on Vietnam Airlines while passengers board the plane (and search for their seats)? It's the accompanying music to the images of nature being shown on the television screens scattered all around the plane. I heard the music on all my domestic flights (Danang, Ho Chi Minh) aboard the Vietnam Airlines. It is just music with no lyrics. Very Relaxing music that I could use for my digital stories. Thanks a lot!

Curious about a Reiki sign I saw at the Western Canned Food store awhile ago. It was there for months, but I only just went to check it out this week, and of course, it was gone! boo hoo. If you know this person that was advertising their services or anyone who practices in Hanoi, please let me know. Prefer English speaking person. Thanks, Steph dstephfuccio (at) yahoo.com www.travelgoddess.net
Any poets out there with some hanoian verse if so please post just for fun. Does anyone know if there will be a Holi festival in Hanoi this year? I've already checked the INCHAM website, which is really out of date.
I am returning to Hanoi in mid-March after having been away for two years. I wonder if there are any Mensans in Hanoi and if yes, whether you meet on a regular basis?
Hello All, I am looking for some bars etc that offer a bit of mid-week atmosphere. I work all day Saturday and Sunday so mid week is the time I can hit the town. I have been missing the chance to get a bit rowdy while enjoying a few beers. I have visited many of the recommended spots on the NH but to be honest mid-week they resemble a ghost town. Have I been unlucky or are the options limited in Hanoi. I am a simple man with simple desires.........Beer and a decent vibe to enjoy the beer w...

What's in store for the year ahead? Who is the Tiger going to be kind to in love, money and health this year? Are there any Vietnamese-Chinese astrology experts who can give us some insights?
Hello, Is there any ukelele and guitar teacher in the room? If the answer is yes, please write back. Thanks!
Hi, does anyone know what day the Human Chess competition will be held this Tet at Van Mieu
