Our landlord tells us he has registered us with the local police. Should we expect any documentation to that effect? Or do we need to do something ourselves? We have had a few complications with our new visa and want to make sure we're doing everything as right as we can but we're getting differing and confusing information about documentation from our landlord and the agent that dealt with our visa.
This must have been asked a hundred times before so I would be happy with a link. I searched but didn't find any real answer. 1. Do I need a license for driving a motorbike? Many Vietnamese tell me "no problem, no-one will ask, just don't have an accident, and if a policeman stops you, just speak English or German or Klingon". But some say "better get one!". Many expats drive for years without. I feel uneasy without one. And of course I am trying to stay out of any accident and I drive ...
G'day all, we've been in Ha Noi for a month and wonder if anyone can tell us what paperwork we are expected to give an employer? The company my wife is working for "Kella" (any feedback on this company?) has asked for certified copies from the Australian Embassy of her : TESOL Cert IV, Resume, passport and criminal check. We can understand the TESOL Cert & criminal check, but they are saying the Government requires all? At 510 000vnd per document from the Embassy, this would be a very expen...
Wanna ask if there are writing jobs here in Hanoi! Thanks!
Hello, The university I work for, Hanoi University of Science, is considering hiring a 3rd party firm to manage it's teachers. If anyone has experience in working with OEC I would appreciate a chance to talk with you.
Can anyone comment on the TEFL online courses? I'm wondering if a TEFL online course constitutes as a teaching qualification and would therefore be acceptable when applying for a work permit? Also, does anyone know how local employers view the online cert? Will schools in HN turn down a job application if the TEFL course has been done online, rather than tutored personally, ie a CELTA. Obviously the online course will be viewed as inferior but will it be viewed as worthless? Helpful answe...
Hi, does anybody know whether a baby born in Hanoi (to non-Vietnamese parents) is eligible for some kind of residency here? He has an Australian passport, and I am hoping he is entitled to residency so we don't need to worry about visa renewal etc. If this is the case, where would I go to start the process? Same place where birth certificates are issued? Thanks.
Has anybody recently gone through the process to get a short tourist visa to the UK for a Vietnamese spouse? How hard is it to jump through all the hoops and what documentation did they need to see? I am British, my wife is Vietnamese and we want to go for about 4 weeks. No intention to live there.
My old visa ended on 1 Feb. My new one starts on 5 Feb. I fly out of the country this Sunday. It's two days before Tet and I'm limited on time to get this fixed. Is this going to be a problem at the airport? Does anyone have experience with this?
Can anybody confirm for how long a JVC (Joint Venture Company) can remain so if the VN partner pulls out? Our VN partner has agreed to remain as a silent "support" partner but not sure how long we can go on like this (been told 6 months). We are looking for a new partner to transfer ownership of the company to but need to know how long I have before having to become a WOFE (Wholly Owned Foreign Enterprise). Maybe there is a lawyer in TNH who can save me the fees! Cheers
We are planning on heading up to the Ha Giang region in a few weeks on a bike trip. I remember talking to people who have done the trip, and they said that they needed to get a permit to travel in the region. Does anyone know if this is still required? If so, where can we get the permit (e.g.: can it be arranged in Hanoi before we go)? And how long does it take to get the permit? I had read that it might take the whole morning if you do it in Ha Giang, and that's precious time we'd prefe...
I've taught in Hanoi before and am looking to come back for approximately 6 months. Due to the new restrictions, can someone please tell me the simplest way to have permission to be in the country for 6 months? When I came before, I just got a 1-month tourist visa from a Bangkok travel agent because I knew I'd be able to upgrade to a 6-month business visa in Hanoi. I'm not clear on the exact nature of the new rules- if you can only stay a certain number of months or only get a certain number ...
Hi, does anyone know how much the British embassy charges for making a certified copy of a diploma? I wanted to go there today, but am not sure if I've brought enough money. Related: I need a certified copy of my MA diploma for my work permit. I assume the bureaucrats want a copy certified by the embassy of the country where the original was issued, right? Or do they want it certified by the embassy of my own country? Does anybody have experience with this? My employer doesn't know. Thanks!
So I was on Bus 34 in Cao Giay this evening and when I got off at the first stop after the bus station on Duong Cao Giay I noticed my wallet was no longer in my pocket...I'd also tried to jump on bus 201, but they kicked me off at the door when they saw white skin, so it must have been on the Bus 34... Please where is the best place to report it stolen? I live in Hai Ba Trung, and spend time every day near the Hoan Kiem Lake - is there a friendly tourist police station near there? It sucks...
Has anyone here ever successfully gotten a "Permanent Resident Card" by virtue of being married to a Vietnamese national? How long did you have to be here before qualifying? I read this thread: http://newhanoian.xemzi.com/en/aska/answers/qid/1872 and thought I would be clever and get around this whole working paper issue by doing the paperwork and getting my permanent residency card. In that thread, one poster quoted: the "ORDINANCE ON ENTRY, EXIT AND RESIDENCE OF FOREIGNERS IN VIETNAM" s...
I'm trying to get a Russian visa in Hanoi and now know that I need an orginal invitation letter (not fax or e-mail) mailed or couriered from Russia. The two places online that I've tried haven't gotten back to me about the courier-ing situation. Any suggestions?
Merci d'avance !
Has anyone ever moved their dog or cat from Hanoi to HCMC or vice versa? My vet, who told me that I needed a health cerftificate for such a move, now tells me that she can't issue the certificate, that it has to come from the government, but for $50 she can get the "wheels" in motion. From one country to another, OK I can understand the need, but from one city to another within the same country?? Maybe I'll just load the two us on my bloody motorbike and drive there.
I have a Full Irish A1 motorcycle driving licence(125cc) but the office refuse to exchange it for a vietnamese licence. Just wondering if there is any specific reason because they dont like giving reasons there. Thanks
Can anyone recommend a good and reliable accountant that works with US citizens living abroad? I am filing US taxes (as an NGO worker in Vietnam) and I'm looking for someone who is knowledgeable about the various tax exemptions and requirements. Anyone ever try filing for these exemptions themselves? Is it as complicated as it seems?
