Where can I find good old fashioned mayo (e.g. Hellmans) and not salad spread (e.g. Miracle Whip)?

Where can I find good old fashioned mayo (e.g. Hellmans) and not salad spread (e.g. Miracle Whip)?

I've purchased over three brands-- Kraft (which says real mayo on the label), Crown, and a Japanese brand. They are all sour tasting like Miracle whip. I'm dying for a normal sandwich with regular mayo.

2nd hand bike buying fantasy

Hello.

I've been renting a Wave for a while now, and think it's time to buy my own - the maths of the situation is that if I rent for 2 years I pay $1200, so i may as well buy my own bike now, and sell it on later.

I'd like to see what's available 2nd hand bike wise, but I'm too lazy to go chasing classifieds around town - are there any 2nd hand bike shops?

In my mind I'm picturing a pristine tarmacced lot, with shiny serviced 2nd hand bikes of all shapes and sizes stretching off into the distance and reasonable prices attached to each one. There's even a clown with free helium balloons for each customer. That's the ideal. What's the closest you've seen?

Has Metro reopened? Plus La Vie supplier?

I feel it's probably wrong of me to ask two substantially unrelated questions in one post, however I'm feeling reckless so here goes:

1. Has anyone been to Metro (successfully) since the floods?
I know it has been under water, and it's a long hike for me to make fruitlessly; and

2. Does anyone know if La Vie delivers their bottled water to private consumers? If so, could you share the contact details?
I have a La Vie sparkling habit, and making me rather overly dependent on Metro.

Thanks.

What are Normal Prices for Things?

I went to the park yesterday, at the entrance as I walked in the guy pointed to a little notebook in front of him that had 200,000 written on it. I sort of gave him a quizzical look, because the price just seemed absurd. He noticed and looked at the book and sort of apologetically turned the page to a page that said 20,000 on it. $1.20 cents or so seemed like a reasonable price to get into a nice park. I assumed he had left it on the group price page or something.

Only when I left the park through a different entrance did I see a more permanent sign showing the price to be 2,000. Which of course makes much more sense in retrospect.

Now normally, as a westerner awkwardly bumbling through a poor country I don't really mind if I pay 50,000 for my xe om instead of 40,000. Paying 10x though bugs me.

So I thought it might be nice to put together a sort of back of the hand price guide as to what things should cost in Hanoi.

Here's my initial attempt:

Street food, pho or bun: 15,000-25,000 depending on how many goodies

Motobike taxi: 20,000 within one area of town, 30-50,000 across areas.

Street food, from women with baskets: 2,000-10,000 depending on nothing in particular as far as I can tell.

now I haven't even been in town for a week so I'd love to have some folks that actually know what they're talking about weight in.

I am especially curious about how much I should expect to pay for shoes and clothing, tailored or from a shop, as I need to buy some.

Also when you know someones trying to get too much out of you how, how do you prefer to make it clear that you know the score?

Tarot reader?

Can anyone recommend a Tarot reader in Hanoi?
Not a numerologist / astrologist / palmist, just Tarot.
The one I knew of, Lily, has now left the country.

Purchasing good quality candles?

Can anyone recommend a place to buy decent quality candles at a reasonable price in Hanoi? Both column and tea light.

Have checked Metro & Big C & Uma, however quality is low and prices are surprisingly high. Weird.

Getting Shoes Made

I've searched the archives, and I've seen a number of questions about finding shoes for big feet. Along those same lines, I'm wondering if anyone knows of a place in Hanoi where you can get shoes made -- similar to the set up in Hoi An. I remember someone telling me about such a place a long time ago, but I've completely forgotten the details. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated -- thanks!

looking for calipers

Hello, does anyone know where I can buy 6 inch calipers with 0.01 mm accuracy? Ideally I would like to find digital calipers, but dial calipers or just plain old Vernier calipers would be fine.

Thanks for any tips.

Looking for breaksfast cereals

Currently I cannot find these breakfast cereals that I have been able to purchase previously for my kids.
I want to avoid cornflakes, frosties, milo flakes, cocopops- which seem to dominate the shelves and am seeking something more healthy - without going to mueslies.
In the last week I have been to fivimart and metro (totally bare!)with no luck.
Has anyone seen (very recently- like yesterday)these products - Weetbix (santitariam or any really), Sultana Bran (Kellogs), Just Right (Kellogs)or similar?
Thank you in anticipation
