Blackberry doesn't work

Hi I have a Blackberry that I would like to make work in Vietnam. To receive e-mails I am told I need to have my sim card "enterprise activated". I have looked on all the suppliers' sites ie Mobifone, Viettel and Vinaphone without joy.

Any advice will be much appreciated

Child minding options

My husband and I are moving to Hanoi at the end of the year with our 6 month old baby. I would like to do some part time teaching (about 3 afternoons a week) and was wondering what kind of options for child minding are available other than hiring a nanny.

I have looked at a number of nursery schools/kindergartens online and the minimum age seems to be 18 months.

Any suggestions?

Where can I find good old fashioned mayo (e.g. Hellmans) and not salad spread (e.g. Miracle Whip)?

Where can I find good old fashioned mayo (e.g. Hellmans) and not salad spread (e.g. Miracle Whip)?

I've purchased over three brands-- Kraft (which says real mayo on the label), Crown, and a Japanese brand. They are all sour tasting like Miracle whip. I'm dying for a normal sandwich with regular mayo.

2nd hand bike buying fantasy

Hello.

I've been renting a Wave for a while now, and think it's time to buy my own - the maths of the situation is that if I rent for 2 years I pay $1200, so i may as well buy my own bike now, and sell it on later.

I'd like to see what's available 2nd hand bike wise, but I'm too lazy to go chasing classifieds around town - are there any 2nd hand bike shops?

In my mind I'm picturing a pristine tarmacced lot, with shiny serviced 2nd hand bikes of all shapes and sizes stretching off into the distance and reasonable prices attached to each one. There's even a clown with free helium balloons for each customer. That's the ideal. What's the closest you've seen?

Mobile phone repair?

So I dropped my nice Sony Ericsson mobile phone on its head yesterday and now the screen is a complete blank. Everything else seems to function normally - but I can't see what I'm doing.

Anybody know if there is hope for my phone? Does anybody know of a mobile phone REPAIR shop in Hanoi?

Ho Ho Ho... Christmas is coming

I know I'm planning ahead, but can anyone advise a nice place for Christmas Lunch. Last year we did the Sheraton in HCMC and it was great, but we have budget conscious friends with us this year so need somewhere nice but not as pricey. I guess what I really want is Christmas atmosphere, good food, fun and frivolity at a good price. Thanks in advance.

learning vietnamese in sydney

Hey, I know this isn’t really the right place to ask this but i don’t know where else to find out. I'm going to be living in Hanoi for much of next year and was wondering if anyone knew of/learnt off a Vietnamese teacher in Sydney, Australia. Northern dialect preferred, but I would be happy with anybody who speaks Vietnamese. The only courses that I’ve been able to find have been full time at Sydney uni. Thanks.

Any one interested in free tours in Hanoi?

hi,
is anyone interested in one to two days of free tours in and around Hanoi on the 25th and 26th of this month?

I have a friend in the Travel industry that's looking for a few foreigners willing to trade being the subject of some photographs for some bona fide tours in and around Hanoi.

If you are interested, or know some people who might be interested please contact Mr Duc on m:0903283438

I've previously done such an activity and it took me to a small island on a river where they make rice paper, various pagodas of the beaten track and to meet an orchestra flautist, an artist and a famous Hanoi chef.

Job Options, what's out there? Moving to Hanoi 2009 for 2-3 years from Oz

My wife has 2 - 3 year work contract in Hanoi, starting end of 2009. Accommodation included.

The issue: I need some interesting work or I'll go nuts.

I don't want to work with children, animals, medical or religious groups.

I'm 52 years old, currently do telecommunications technical stuff, but have or can obtain other skills (or qualifications) if necessary. I'm taking Vietnamese language lessons starting next month.

What's out there, by way of real work for expats?

How hard is it to get work in the tourist industry?

How do I prepare for good jobs?

Teaching adults English is possible I suppose, but low on my wish list.

Your advice appreciated.

The disgruntled employee syndrome. Is there a cure?

I’m not sure if this question has been addressed before but I’ve met others who feel strongly about it. It’s in regard to the guideline that members do not post fake reviews on the NH about places they have an undeclared relationship with. This is not genuine or useful information and I think everyone agrees it should be avoided. What I’m wondering about is the converse situation; where a disgruntled employee or ex-employee does a vitriolic hatchet job on a business for personal reasons. There are a few fairly obvious examples on the site at the moment disguised, with varying degrees of success, as genuine reviews. Surely this is against the spirit of the guideline. Aren’t reviews such as this deceiving to members as much as phony advertising? Is there any way to avoid this or to weed them out?
