Opening a bar in Hanoi - Hanoi Answers

Opening a bar in Hanoi

I'm wondering if it is possible to open my own bar in Hanoi with a group of English/American friends. Any advice? Cheers.

Is that so, hany? I thought that one no longer needed a Vietnamese partner to start a business in Vietnam. Have I been misinformed?

I think that technically it is possible to open a place without a Vietnamese partner, but from a practical standpoint, it can be rough. Having a Vietnamese partner you can trust seems to be a major advantage.

A 100% foreign ownership is allowed now. Tedious task though. After getting the business license, one has to apply for other licenses too. Liquor, cigarettes, VAT, etc etc. All documentation will be in Vietnamese. It is advisable to go through a Law Firm or a Consultancy Agency to help you get all the paper work done. Lots of paperwork, lots of patience and lots of running around is required. Cheers.
