Can anyone recommend a place to buy luxurious quality, pure cotton bed sheets - that are vaguely reasonably priced?
Also, pillows?
Thanks

I find searching for reasonably priced sheets in Hanoi a trying ordeal. Not only that, but they tend to be on the hideous side of things -- giant gaudy floral prints and whatnot. We've always just had sheets made, and I highly recommend it. You get to pick out the fabric yourself, and the cost is comparatively low -- I think it's the way to go.

Dome has nice sheets and they only come in one colour. White...@>@@!! THere is a shop on Hang Trong i think!

You can get decent pillows at the Dunlopillo mattress shop in Hanoi Towers. Sheets - difficult to get decent quality in Hanoi. Try Big C or Metro, or HCMC, that's where I get 'em.

Having checked all these places out, I went with some lovely cotton sheets (as well as pillows) from Dunlopillo. Yes, they are white - this is still far better than most of the designs available at Metro, Big C and various small street stores (I had a big week of shopping). At 320,000 VND for a flat or fitted King size sheet, and 80,000 VND per pillow case, a set came out about the same as Dome's sheets (Flat KS = 290,000; fitted KS = 352,000, two pillow cases = 176,000) and are actually of finer quality (I found the Dome sheets a little rough). Having trouble finding a decent bed spread for summer (Dome doesn't have the colours I want), so will probably have that made. Kparsons, where do you go to have bedding made?

On Hang Gai Street. While most of the cotton sheets are from China, the embroidery is done in VN. But you can customise your bedlinen. Look at pillowcases, most shops show the same range of detailing. You can find ones with delicate drawn work like you would find in an old French linen cupboard. Choose a pattern, a size. You decide the detail. Then ask for this to be made up in either Italian cotton and English cotton. You get thread count of egyptian cotton that way. A set of China cotton retails at around for around 24 USD , sheet and two pillow cases. You will pay slightly more to get sheets made up especially for you in better cotton. You can choose any detailing on anything in the store. They can add it. You don't have to have the crappolla tablecloth look on your bed. You can look through Vogue and give them a monogrammed hierloom photocopy of the Grand Duchy and Countess Fleur De Les. The embroiderers will copy it into steamy night hotel sheet quality. Sweet Dreams.

Hi you may also want to visit Maroon at 156 Hang Bong.Phone 04 928 7264 They will make to order a duvet from what ever material you want. Also do sheets, pillow cases, cushion covers etc and all home decore products to order. Will design and manufacture furniture. Their prices are normally well below Dome's prices and both partners (Van and Phoung)worked at Dome for many years.

I spent a week going evereywhere to find plain white, cotton, flat sheets and finally hada this place recommended to me: Minh Duc Shop 59 Hang Gai I have since bought sheets for our entire house here, as they are cheap and nice. This shop specialises in embroidering sheets and pillow slips in addition to table cloths etc. I am not a fan of embroidery myself, so I just asked Chi, the owner, if I could get plain sheets and she was more than accomodating. You can get flat and fitted sheets for all bed sizes, as well as pillow slips, all in plain, white cotton. Buy in bulk and she discounts, with prices ranging from $7-17 depending on the size you want.

Anyone know the Vietnamese translation for a flat sheet without the elastic corners? Hang Gai looks promising. Thanks for the info everyone!

I am after some sheets coincidentally. I'll try Maroon and Minh Duc.
We visited the Minh Duc shop on Hang Gai today. They were very accommodating, however the only colors available were white, dark purple, and royal blue. We ended up with a white flat sheet and two pillow cases with no embroidery for $15. It's going to take about 10 days to have them made. The transaction went very smoothly, but if you're looking for a variety of colors you might want to check elsewhere.

Try Parkson Department Store at: Parkson Viet Tower, 198B Tay Son They have some nice sets with nice colour combinations for King, Queen & Single beds. (includes: fitted sheet, duvet cover & 2 pillow cases)
Yeah, those sets seem to be available in several places around town. It's tracking down the elusive flat sheet that is driving me crazy.
Dunlopillow has promised me flat sheets for this Sat ... although, having said that, they have been promising them for the last month, so we shall see. Just so you know, they only come in white.
And the sheets from Dunlopillow have come through, oh me of little faith. Such very nice sheets too. A tiny bit more expensive now than I originally posted (370,000 or 380,000, I think they were - I can't find my receipt at the moment), but worth every dong. And how much could it possibly cost to get them dyed, if I need to, right? Actually, does anyone have information on dying materials in Hanoi, apart from washing them with darker colours?

I'll hit Minh Duc either later today or early next week. Any idea what they charge for a duvet cover?

The Aussino shop in Vincom is expensive but has 260 threadcount cotton pillowcases in plain colours and funky kiddy sheets plus other flowery bits and pieces but no flat sheets i don't think. www.aussino.com anyone know where to get rag rugs like the kind they make in india? or some sort of ethnicy woven type rugs?
oh and re dye... ace hardware shops in malaysia (ha ha, sorry a bit far) maybe singapore too sell machine wash dye like dylon. sometimes in asia a dry cleaner or tailor will get things dyed for you but not sure about whether they do this in vietnam.

I need to buy a flat cotton sheet just for 2 months. I don't care how hideous it is as long as it doesn't scratch me. Sounds like Big C or Metro are probably the best bet. But they are quite far from the center (I actually live in West Lake, but close to Truc Bach). Does anyone ever go to one of those places? (maybe I could tag along?) Also I've tried a few of the supermarkets in Truc Bach/West Lake with no luck. Thanks!
My tailor directed me to the dye shop at 27(?) Nguyen cong Tru Street for my dyeing wishes.
re sheets, i was in parkson and yes it was so expensive but they have good quality cotton sheets, plain and patterned. also matress pads, different types, a cotton one like at the dome and one brand from malaysia probably filled with chemicals that is supposed to be anti alergy.

hello, you can find quite pretty contemporary designs bedsheets, and goos quality cotton, at Vincom Towers. On 2nd or 3rd floor, you have a shop with all kind of colors for bedsheets, towels and all clothes for the house. It is not that cheap, but it s great quality and lot of differnt colors if you are picky about this. bonne nuit...

I second that travelgoddess, I bought some sheets from Dunlopillo - just because it was so easy. Not cheap, but easy and really good sheets too.
