howdy- i'm moving to hanoi next week and was wondering two things:

1) are there places to buy jewelry and fiber art materials (knitting/crochet stuff, embroidery and sewing materials, etc.)?

2) does anyone want to start a crafting group or Stitch n' Bitch?

There are some craft supplies but not of good quality as you know from craft shops in the west.

The HIWC had a knitting club for a while I'll PM you with a contact there. She knows more than me.

There are several yarn shops on Dinh Liet in Hoan Kiem. They sell a fair variety of knitting needles but I haven't seen any crochet hooks there.

There are lots of shops on Hang Bac Street in the old quarter from where it intersects with Hang Dao, they have threads, buttons, braid, trimmings, beads, imitation fur, feather boas!! much to choose from. I would be interested in getting together to make stuff or just share ideas.

On Doi Can st. there is this place that caught my attention. It's called something like 'The international knitting consortium'. It's a decent sized shop that seems to have a whole bunch of knitting related stuff that knitters would want. Doi Can st. isn't that long, so if you take a xe om to it and walk down you can find it easily enough. Not only that, but Doi Can is close to the Ho Chi Minh museum. Bonus!
