Geckop poop - Hanoi Answers

Geckop poop

To all you biologists out there - why does gecko poop have a white bit at the end? Yes, I have way too much time on my hands.

It's urea! A good way to be reassured you don't have mice (or worse).

Actualy I've just discovered the answer. Aparantly "Reptiles have a single opening call the vent or cloaca where faecal matter and uric acid are excreted together. excreting uric acid (white bit) is more efficient than urinating because less water is wasted when excreting wastes". Now there's a good conversation starter.

"I've just discovered the answer"

No, you didn't discover the answer, it was given to you, word for word, on the thorn tree forum.

I'm guessing that's why he put that section in quotation marks. Maybe others read his answer differently, but by "discover", I assumed he meant "read somewhere".

Thank you alpha. Maybe gecko is upset I asked about her poop

Tamvong just wanted to say thanks to you for educating me on this subject. Today when I pulled a tray out of my cupboard I remembered this post, and instead of thinking, "Yuk cockroaches, clean cupboard!! etc" I think "Oh, a gecko!", wipe it, and go calmly about my day. For some reason I can handle a gecko living in my cupboard better than cockroaches-I don't know (or want to learn!) how germy they may be.
Anyway thanks......

New TNH Policy (apologies to alpha):

Footnotes/endnotes are not required on TNH.

It may not be gecko poop that I am thinking of, but what are those elongated diamond-shaped grey things, about 1cm long, that hang off walls and in corners of rooms? Some of them seem to move and have what I think are small worms inside them!

Hanoianne I think they are "case bearing moths"

I found similar things when I moved into my apartment and looked them up on the web

Go to this website then scroll down to see photo

Apparently harmless but still bit gross!

I believe those little gray things on the walls eventually turn into the hart shaped flies that bother me so much.

Thanks, Claggles and Cetiomega - that explains a lot!
