I've searched through the questions thus far, and haven't really found the answer I'm looking for, so hope you folks can help.... The DVD drive on my laptop needs to be fixed -- I think it's just loose, so it isn't a major procedure. Anyhow, I'm a bit worried I'll do something wrong if I attempt it myself, so I'd like to take it to a shop and have a "pro" repair it. However, I'm not sure where to go -- I'd like to take it to a reputable shop that I know isn't going to take the parts out of it or make the situation worse -- can anyone recommend a good place to start? Thanks!

I think you should go to PhungHung street where there are a lot of computer shops and many reputable computer hospital shops as well. You should come to the one which has young staff, I believe they can speak English well with you. Your doubt in taking some parts out of the laptop is reasonable, you should be careful! But never always keep that doubt in yr mind! If you really need help, you can call me 0989256051, surely I can not repair but I may have free time to take you there and work as a translator for you! of course! you DONT have to pay any fee for me!

If you have an Acer and can do some more asking around, then you're in luck. One of the guys I work with went to the Acer retail shop in town. I'm not sure, but I think it's on Yet Kieu Street. There he was able to get out of them the location of the Acer servcie location in Hanoi. He got great deals on several upgrades including a new DVD writer.

Alas, I have a Dell.... There is an FPT shop on Yet Kieu where I've taken my iPod in to be replaced a few times, but I've never had them do any repairs. I would've expected them to be great, but a friend of ours (who I recommended go there) took his laptop there and they made a big mess of it. Hmmm....

Just to add on to Recon's reply, the Acer Service Centre is at Vincom Towers, on the 16th floor. Went there once to repair my laptop and the service was prompt. But sadly, the problem recurred so I brought it back to my country for repair.
