I'm looking for nice winterwear (coats, jackets, scarves, gloves...), but now that I actually need to do some shopping, I can't remember where *any* of streets specializing in winterwear, Made in Vietnam shops, and other such places are! I wouldn't mind hunting them down, but I'll only be in Hanoi for a few days before I fly up north... to the Arctic Circle. (No, really... Hence, the winterwear madness.)
Could anyone tell me where I could find some Made in Vietnam shops or other shops or streets selling similar merchandise? The more locations, the better. Actual addresses would be terrific, but general directions and cross streets would be appreciated as well. Thanks!
PS: Anyone up for some winterwear shopping sometime between the 8th and the 15th?

M2 Clothing Outlet has tons of winter stuff right now. We found Columbia, Marmot, and Patagonia coats for 1/10th of what you might pay back home.
It's across from the Melia Hotel on Ly Thuong Kiet.

There are two Made in Vietnams around the corner from M2 - one just down from Paloma on Quan Su and another big boy on Ba Trieu before Nguyen Du.

The known-as "russian" shop inside the Hanoi towers (Hai Ba Trung) has a large range of winter clothes, jackets... also

There is also a Made in Vietnam in the lot of the Fivi near Truc Bac. You can also find one just down from Koto on Van Mieu. Also try Doi Can, lots of shops on that street.
They are everywhere!

Exactly. Asking where you can find a "Made In Vietnam" shop is like asking where you can find a 7/11 in Taiwan.
Throw a stone. You'll hit one.

There is a shop on the ground floor of Hanoi Tower that sells jackets, jumpers, shoes etc. But M2 probably sells stuff that has a little more feminine style. I'm much bigger than the average Vietnamese and I managed to get a padded jacket and a fleecy jumper at M2. In Ma May in the old quarter there is a shop that sells a few winter things, it is on the bend, sorry don't know the name or number.

Thank you for your contributions, everyone! I truly appreciate all the valuable input. I've checked out most of the recommendations that were given - basically, every location that wasn't too far from, say, Van Mieu, which I consider to be pretty central.
The Made in Vietnam on 58 Ba Trieu had a particularly good selection of feminine winterwear styles. Other Made in Vietnam shops tended to only carry some portion of the same selection offered at 58 Ba Trieu, making a visit not terribly worthwhile. However, while 58 Ba Trieu had a great selection, I did not make a purchase, because my shopping expeditions/exploration trips led me to discover quite a few interesting shops with better prices.
--------------------------------------
I found a few shops on Doi Can (around 100-200 Doi Can) that offered a wide selection of puffies and wool coats in a variety of lengths and styles.
--------------------------------------
A fellow New Hanoian recently informed us that the Hang Da Market clothing vendors had been relocated to Cua Dong (connects to Hang Ga). I went there yesterday and found a few shops there that sold puffy coats at fairly good prices.
--------------------------------------
Also, I wandered off the beaten track yesterday in the Old Quarter and came upon Hang Ngang (between Hang Bo and Hang Bac), and that street was completely lined with shops featuring jackets and coats. While most of the store selections are relatively repetitive, patience might be rewarded. I found a coat to my liking after I had strolled all the way to the point where the outerwear shops gave way to activewear shops and had turned back around to stroll down the other side of the street.
--------------------------------------
For an idea of pricing, I got:
- two classic-style below-the-knee-length wool coats (great quality, soft wool, no flaws) on Doi Can for 270,000 VND each
- a trendy (trendy, not tacky and gaudy... there's a BIG difference) below-the-hip-length, cinched-at-the-waist puffy jacket with hood and belt for 470,000 VND
- a classic-style below-the-knee-length puffy coat with hood on Cua Dong for 600,000 VND
Of them, I'd say the wool coats were the best bargain, but I love long puffy jackets and coats. Besides, you can't really call the prices I paid a splurge! :)
