Are there any cheap outlets or "outlets" anyone knows of? Or a street with lots of clothing shops?
Thanks, and merry xmas!

Try Vinatex on Ba Trieu - they are cheap or made in vietnam stores which seem to be all over but I can't remember the address - sorry - good luck

The Russian place on Kim Ma that I simply can't remember the name of (nor did I have any joy w/the search here, but know it's been mentioned before) is supposedly a winner. Maybe someone else can chime in w/the name and address?
Also, I saw a "big and tall" store on the 2nd or 3rd floor of Trang Tien Plaza a few weeks ago. They had a lot of really big stuff -- worth a look.
If nothing else, head to Boo Skateshop (one in the OQ near Hang Dieu, one by Vincom on Le Dai Hanh).

I haven't been into the Russian store on Kim Ma, if I'm even thinking of the same place, but there is at least *a* Russian store on the south (odd-numbered) side of the street, somewhere just west of 273 Kim Ma and just east of the BBQ Chicken on the next block over (I don't know the exact address, but that narrows it down to a block). My gut tells me that the name is something like Sasha Shop.
For something like Tolia, I would peak into any of the Made in Vietnam stores, which also sell defective goods on the cheap.

I remember going to Tho Nhuom St. (especially the part that cuts across Hai Ba Trung and Tran Hung Dao streets) with my colleagues when we were in Hanoi in 2002 for a business trip. They had to buy winter clothes as they had a trip to the US scheduled after Vietnam. Those shops are still there.

Upstairs in Trang Tien there is a shop that sells decent stuff, and around the same price as the russian shop. Also Canifa (?) there is one on Hai Ba Trung near hanoi towers... They sell warm gear, i bought a turtle-neck for under 100k. Very warm, good quality. Nice scarves there too.
Definitely any of the Made in Vietnam stores. I love them :) The shops are usually a giant jumble. Kinda like going to an op-shop back home, with good bargains to be had.

U look familiar. As long as u r Prun's roomate :D. There is one "Made in Vietnam" shop in Nguyen Luong Bang street or another bigger one in Ba Trieu street, near a traffic light. I don't remember the address but it's worth trying as they have big size. G'luck

Thanks guys n girls! I went to one place recommended on here (I forget the name, but it's on Hai Ba Trung) for winter coats and the cheapest coat I actually liked was $180 (I haggled her down to $120 but she wouldn't go any lower, and I was thinking it was worth about $60 so I gave up!)... I was sure I could find much cheaper if I asked.
Cheers!

Go to the M2 shop on Ly Thuong Kiet. It's across the street from Melia Hotel.

They have TONS of Western-sized winter coats and jackets right now, most of which cost between 300k-500k dong. Several of them are Patagonia and Columbia coats, which sell for more than $200 USD back home.
They are selling like hotcakes, so hurry up!

Grant you really shouldn't compare prices to back home, or everything will look cheap here, when it's actually often a rip off. That's the shop I went to and I'm pretty sure the Boss coat I tried on wasn't really Boss, and they were trying to charge English prices for it because they know people like you compare it to home and think it sounds like a good deal. :)

Even if it was real Boss I wouldn't pay more than $100 for it. They make them here, they should be dirt cheap.

oops, is it not possible to delete answers you posted in error? ...
My apologies Grant, I DID go to M2 and didn't find anything I liked or that fitted me, but it wasn't the rip-off place I was thinking of. Sorry mate!

I'm not looking for particularly large clothes. I'm tall, but I'm not bulky. I just want something stylish that I can wear both to work and for going out.
Thanks for all the suggestions, I'll check these places out.

There is a Made in Vietnam outlet sale at the moment, i think its the corner of Lang Ha and Thai Ha, or Giang Vo and Lang Ha... There is a sign out front i think it says 35,000 VND. Looks like a massive sale out the front of the big cinema there...

yeah, right, come to Made in VN, most of them are exported goods, good quality.... ! You got plenty of choices there.
