Hello Hanoians,

I hope this is not an inappropriate question to ask on a forum like this, but I thought Id give it a go and hopefully nobody gets offended or anything. I apologise in advance if I came to the wrong place, but me and my friends are really in a bit of a pickle, as we were originally going to go to fly from the US to Bangkok for our very good friend's buck's party but changed the ticket to Hanoi after all the problems over there. We thought it would be easy to find places with a 'buck's' theme, but nobody seems to have reviewed anywhere like that on this site. We're not looking for prostitutes, just some good old fashioned buck's fun. Can anyone give any ideas about some buck's style places we could go in Hanoi? What do Vietnamese guys do on a buck's night? Feel free to private message me if you dont want to post your advice publicly. Thanks in advance,

Buck

They eat dog and drink rice wine.

You are in the wrong town. Try Saigon.

Lots of "Buck's" down there.

Thanks for your advice granteralus, but we've already booked all the tickets and hotels...we thought hanoi would be a good bet because one of the guys in the group has been there before and said it was a fun town. Unfortunately that was quite a long time ago. He mentioned something about the private booths at a place called New Century but I dont see it anywhere on this site.

Atomic, a buck's night is a party just with men for a guy just before he gets married. Normally it involves lots of drinking, partying, watching sexy dancers and innocent, but a little risky fun. In the US, there's a tradition of embarrassing the groom to be at the end of the night by tieing him up naked somewhere or putting him on train to some faraway destination, but I dont think we'll do that in Hanoi.

Please Hanoians, we need your help!

wow celebrate getting married by going drinking and looking at "sexy" girls ??

What a twat!!

Just go to the fortuna and get some whores from downstairs...I am sure they will dance or be "non-whores" if you pay them.

No wonder these monkeys go to Bangkok

Ah! A "bachelor party". Where are you from, again?

Hmmm... Well, yeah New Century is dead, but good riddance, trust me.

For a bachelor party you might try the following:

http://newhanoian.xemzi.com/en/venue/show/31/Ho-Guom-Xanh-Club
or
http://newhanoian.xemzi.com/en/venue/show/67/Halle-Club
or
http://newhanoian.xemzi.com/en/venue/show/25/Seventeen-Saloon

Unless of course, you'd like to see the real Hanoi.

In my country we take the guy out, get him really wasted, watch sexy dancers, then take turns ramming him all night long. But we're not gay! We just want to make sure he has a good time before he sleeps with the same woman for the rest of his life.

I would consider changing to HCMC, iam working down here at the moment, and is more suited to stag nights.

If your stuck with Hanoi, then i have had 2 Stag nights out there. Basically both times we got wasted round the City, then ended up in a private room for Karaoke with some hostesses.

Proberly a bit gay by Atomics standards.

Oh no buck_rogers, locals just eat dog meat with a terrible smell sauce 'shrimp sauce'! People often get drunk at midnight and roam around the city so it's not safe out there after 23:30. Hanoi at night is in a deadly quiet but dangerous.
There're also many civilian defenders patrol at night to find gays or foreigners who are having buck's party. They have electric clubs! Prostitutes or that kind of business are strictly treated here.
Atomic is from Muuk. Look at his avatar.
Yes, there was New Century but the owner has moved to New Hanoi Hilton and enjoy life. This place was fantastic! I was there 2 months ago.

Well, there's no such thing as a "buck's night" here. You're in an South Eastern country, remember?
But nowadays, things have changed I guess. Before the wedding, guys often hang out and celebrate. Drinking is obvious, but I'm not sure if that "sexy dancers" thing is included. It depends on the person I guess. But still, I don't think people here consider it a "buck's night". Just a get together (with extra drinking?) no more.
Hanoi may not be the right place. People don't generally come here for such things.

Well, thanks for all the feedback guys, although there seems to be a bit of mud slingin going on...i guess thats normal with expat forums eh? I spent a year down in Colombia after college and met many a disgruntled hermit expat that dished out 'wise' advice in a condescending manner to folks that were just looking for some help. Reminds me of that book 'Are you experienced?'. People seem to forget sometimes that they were once 'newbies' too...and probably will be again once their bank account runs out or they run home scurrying back to their 9-5 office jobs.

Anyway, thanks to those posters that were trying to help out, looks like you guys have convinced us to change plans again, especially virezo's warning about the police and electric sticks! Holy shit, the only police i want to see on a bucks night is the kind taking their clothes off! Hanoi sounds like a really dangerous place, you guys must be really brave to live there.

Vietsam, not quite sure what you mean about being subtle, I thought I was quite polite, although judging by your photo it looks like subtlety is not one of your strong points either...

We're not really a bunch of patronising expats, Buck Rogers. Perhaps some of the responses you received are due to the fact that many expats, including myself, would be appalled at the idea of Ha Noi becoming another Bangkok (or even Sai Gon). I'm willing to hope that you don't necessarily associate South East Asia with subservient women, although the fact that you had to specify 'we're not looking for prostitutes' is a bit of a worry don't you think?

On second thoughts, don’t go to Australia – you’ll not notice the difference from your state.
Come to Ha Noi and between your “bucking” check out some cultural differences.
First be aware that this is not Tijuana with a girl in every doorway with dope and sex for the pretty young gringos. - Prostitution is illegal in Vietnam and you get death for selling drugs.
Have a look around at the infrastructure of Ha Noi and Hi Phong – not much to be seen. Your Nixon cleared most of it away Christmas 1972. It takes a poor, war-ravaged country a long time to recover from that type of wanton destruction.
While you are in Ha Noi why don’t you visit the AO hospices where 40 years later they keep the children who are still born deformed and poisoned thanks to American ingenuity.
Travel south to the DNZ and see the acres of unexploded ordinances left behind by your fleeing army which are still killing and maiming innocent civilian farming families.
Visit Hue and see the rebuild ruins of the Imperial Citadel that your brave General Westmoreland leveled in 1968 to kill less than 100 Vietnamese soldiers who had vanquished and humiliated him and his entire Marine Corps in Central Vietnam.
Travel on down to Si Gon and see the remaining social decay created by the Great American Brothel fashioned by twenty years of your corrupt occupation. Don’t miss the American Embassy where your people pushed their loyal lackeys out of the way to run away in blind panic as the People’s Army took back the South.
And if you have the time come back to Ha Noi and visit the last resting place of Uncle Ho, the man who defeated, the Japanese, the French, the Chinese and yours.
Be aware, that no matter who is the President America will always make war on some small defenseless country because Exxon, GM, Boeing, McDonalds, Coke, et al, know its good for business and because they bought the White House, Congress and the Senate, fair and square, fifty years ago.
Also be aware, that unless your Daddy bought a Congressman (like Dubya) or you run away (like Clinton) you could be the next sucker in a fox hole.
So enjoy your “bucking” while you can. Please just do it somewhere else.

Hell of a Buck's party Pinto's plan would be!
Linking buck_roger's plan in having a buck's party in Hanoi to the mistakes of the US government in the past are ludicrous.
Call me short sighted but the guy just wants to know where to go for a bachelor's party, stag night, buck's night whatever you wish to call it, in Hanoi. Which they have ended up having to go to given the unfortunate events in Bangkok. Assuming their presence here will turn the place into the sex trade melting pot of Asia is a little far fetched and as far as i can tell they would like to be respectful of the culture here, i.e by not engaging prostitutes* and trying to find out what Vietnamese do for such an occasion.

I've been to a quasi Vietnamese Buck's party, but it's not exactly a tradition here, i'm fairly sure it doesn't really exist. In fact i had to invite the guy out for a drink whilst his wife to be was having the equivalent female version of a buck's night. Our night just involved drinking and chatting over grilled chicken followed by karaoke of the singing variety, not the singing and extra female attention variety, of which i'm pretty sure exists at a lot of karoake joints.
I'd suggest perhaps a trip out to the snake village (see here) where you can force your buck to eat the beating heart of a snake. Doing so however probably means breaking any moral obligation to the fair treatment and trade of animals, i'm fairly sure some of these snakes shouldn't be in restaurants, but if you thought about all these types of issues continuously, it would be hard to get out of bed everyday. And we're talking about a buck's night here, moral obligations tend to be a little more flexible if you can live with it.
Hope you manage to sort out some sort of decent buck's night (there is beer here after all). Perhaps post buck's party you could check out some of Pinto's suggestions for a different perspective.

a young guy posting for some advice on a pre-wedding night out for the boys and copping such rubbish is ridiculous! Bucks nights are commonplace and most of the guys aare just regular guys enjoying a night out - nice guys who don't suddenly morph into drug traffickers and pimps, destroying the age old culture of the town they're in!

i certainly don't think these guys would destroy Ha Noi, but i wouldn't suggest tying anyone up naked in the old quarter!

i honestly do suggest Saigon, if buck can make it. much more along bach. party night going on there.

hope buck can make it to Bangkok, though. probably the best place for this sort of party vibe.

First off, this guy isn't asking how he and his buddies can go about ass-raping virgins, in a cocaine fueled frenzy leaving Hanoians left to pick up the pieces in the path of their wanton destruction. Jeeeezuz! The man was just asking for ideas on locations for a bachelor party. What is with all of the aggressive bullshit from the community? For all we know the wedding is actually happening here.
