Our mattress, while brand-new when we moved in, is in desperate need of a replacement (imagine sleeping directly on the coils). We've looked for a new mattress, and were all set to buy one at Metro... but it had been sold by the time we returned.
Can anyone recommend a good place to get a quality mattress? I'm envisioning a beautiful, spacious store with floor models you can try out. I am of the mindset there is no chance we'll find something like that in Hanoi, but would be nice -- it was awfully difficult to gauge the quality of mattresses at Metro, where they are just displayed standing up.

Hang Điếu in the old quarter has a large number of mattress and bedding shops. They do tend to display them vertically, though.

Yeah, I was going to say Hang Dieu (the street a block east of Finnegan's with the famous Bun Bo Nam Bo). Also check Cat Linh street and Hang Chieu street. I seem to remember a nice mattress shop with floor models in either VinCom Tower or Trang Tien Plaza, but don't quote me on that. Good luck, and let us know if you find something other than bamboo mats and rock-hard mattresses with creaky coils.

I bought my mattress at the Dunlopillo shop in Hanoi Towers a few months back. It's a small shop but they do display a couple of models you can look at.

there's a shop at the me linh plaza direction airport. i bought our mattress over there and they are good quality no too firm nor too soft.

yes, Hanoi Towers for a good quality mattress. I bought mine there almost 5 years ago and it's still perfect. definitely worth investing for comfortable nights
