wow, my boyfriend and i bought a bike there a few months ago. is that the only market like that? i thought there would be more some where around the city...
anyway, it does sound perfect, it's almost exactly what you described. yet, i would not advise going somewhere like that with out a local Vietnamese friend. it was extremely hard to negotiate (esp. with my embarrassingly low level of Vietnamese). they also did not like me(a girl)having anything to do with the process. they actually would not bargain the price until i sent my boyfriend back into the market alone. that sort of stuff tends to piss me off a little. but, whatevs.
if you do find another place like this, be prepared! know how much you should be paying and expect the men selling the bikes to ask for way more than you should pay on the initial inquiry. they are older mechanic types. they are not nice. you have to be firm, but respectful (at least try). they will laugh and make fun of you to no end.
best advice: take a native Vietnamese friend with you. it's worth it. i wish we had!
anyway, probably doesn't matter if that was the only one. i really just wanted to vent on what an annoying and daunting experience the motorbike market was for us.
in the end, after all the embarrassment and confusion, i must say that we came out with a decent bike for a decent(a bit more than we hoped)price. i guess all's well that ends well!

I only bought second hand 50cc bikes. The first was an Enjoy (Yamaha) for $200. The second was a Honda Dio for 2,000,000 vnd. The first lasted 3 years - the second lasted 2 years. The repair guy for these small bikes (no papers/plates needed) is at 228 Pho Hue (?) My latest was $110 (plus trade in) with unlimited free repairs. Which he has done.
