Places to meditate?
no photo available

Does anyone know of a nice quiet place I could go to meditate? At the moment I try to do it at home, but it's hard to block out the noise from my housemates and the street. I'm not sure what buddhist temples or meditation centres there are in hanoi but anywhere that is open to the general public without attracting too much of a tourist crowd would be ideal...

I am teaching something called Sahaja Yoga meditation in Hanoi if you are interested in learning a new technique, mainly i am working with small groups of Vietnamese who speak some English but hope to be running big group workshops for the general public fairly soon with the help of some translators. It's quite well known that the technique strengthens one's ability to attain and sustain a state of thoughtless awareness and to carry the benefits of that into one's day to day life. It's not affiliated with any particular religion (aims to integrate them all) or culture (its taught in probably 100 countries in the world now - though you could say the concept of ordinary people achieving their "self realisation" can be traced back to India.) It's also free and operates as a registered charity in many countries. If you (or anyone) wants to try it out send me a pm.

if you don't want to join any community and want to lone to your meditation, go to the Quan Anh pagoda. It is located at the end of Som chai on West Lake facing the surrounding lakes, if you take the road bordering the lake past the Tay Ho hotel with the noisy swimming pool, carry on until you come to a cross road with prawn cakes sellers and other street food hawkers, turn to the right, it will lead you directly to the pagoda. It is a peaceful quiet corner by the lake, far away from traffic noises and cut off from domestic noises too.
