I am new to Hanoi and am looking for any fun, social activities that can get me out of the house. It can be as formal as a tour or as informal as meeting up with some other young expats in the area for drinks or coffee. Any suggestions?

You can try some favourite places as voted by Hanoians here. For example, Dragonfly bar at weekend full of expats.

You can start by going to any of the events posted on this site, most esp the monthly meet up or the NH bowling nights. Depending on what country you're from, your embassy may have social events on a regular basis too that you could check out. There's also the Hanoi International Women's Club, or for a more low key meet-up, the Hanoi's professional women's assoc. Or you could get involved in the Hanoi Theatre Group - http://hanoi-hits.info/. Hanoi is full of friendly people - good luck!

Hello. I'm Nick. I'm in the same boat as you are: new in town and looking to do something besides wander the streets and go to tourist sites. Send me a message if you want to hang out, grab some drinks or explore Hanoi.

I'd love to be in on anything you newbies organise! I've been here a little longer but am also looking to make new friends in Ha Noi. I find the idea of going to some of these big events by myself a little intimidating, but would like to go with someone I've already met! A couple of hours chatting in a cafe over some good ca phe su'a nong would be a good start...

Hello, I guess there are at least a few of us in the same position :) I just arrived a few days ago and I would love to meet up with anyone that's interested.
Well it certainly seems like there is interest in a little informal meet up. Anyone who has been in town for a while (longer than my couple of days) want to suggest a time and place?

Count us in! My partner and I just arrived in Hanoi a little over a week ago and would love to meet up with some people...just let us know a time and place :)
Perhaps a lazy Friday afternoon upstairs at La Place, or similar?
That works for me :)

There's obviously some interest in this sort of gathering (and there's likely to be a steady supply of those interested), so why don't one of your put up a "Hanoi Newbies" or some such group on the "Groups" page here on the site. That will allow you to post your events directly to the event calendar and keep everyone informed a bit easier than through this solitary thread. If the "newness" of Hanoi wears off, you can leave the group and let others take the reins. Let me know if you have any trouble setting it up.

I've been in Hanoi quite some time already, but always look for opportunity to meet new people! Let me know when and where you are meeting. Thanks!

Hey everyone. Sorry I haven't been answering. A lot people have been sending me private emails and quite frankly I forgot to check this. It seems like a lot of people are up for hanging out. What do you think about trying to organize I casual get together for coffee or a few drinks next weekend? Shezza mentioned something on Friday afternoon, but unfortunately I work Friday until 8.15pm. Could we do something after that? La Place sounds fine with me. Anyone have an address? Anyone who is interested just RSVP to this thread. I think alpaha's idea is good, but lets set up one time to meet first and then if we want to organize a group we can. Any takers?
Yeah. Work was my concern about a Friday afternoon meetup, but I will definitely be out of work by 8:15. La Place is right next to the Cathedral at 4 Au Trieu.

I'll be joining you guys and ladies in Hanoi next week! Can't wait to plan a get-together. :) In the meantime, the "Hanoi Newbies" group has been created! Feel free to join the group and throw in any ideas you have.
Okay, so just to clear up that is this coming Friday, 8:45ish, at La Place. Anyone have an address for La Place?
oops. sorry didn't see it above..4 Au Trieu.

Can I come??!
Sure
Unfortunately we won't be able to make this Friday's get-together at La Place :( We've joined the Newbies group though, and hope to be seeing some of you soon!
I have never been to La Place. If there are going to be a lot of us should we reserve space?

Can I join this group pls? thanks
I'm glad someone thought of reserving space! A table upstairs has been set aside for us for roughly 15 people, so if anyone else was thinking of coming, please do.
Thanks Shezza. Many have asked "Can I come." This is an open invitation so I think if you feel liking join please do. If you are asking because you are Vietnamese and not a foreigner you should also feel welcome to join. I know that living in the States I loved hanging out with different people and people I could practice my Spanish with so I totally understand. I look forward to meeting everyone. Lisa
Great idea reserving a table. Can't wait to meet everyone tomorrow!
