Hi there,
Does anyone know a reliable and reasonably priced shipping an forwarding agent ? it is to send used furniture etc, from Hanoi to the French Caribbeans. Even a shared spaced in a container would be great. Thanks for replying.

Gday all...
Moving to Hanoi in September/October, and just wondering about the income tax laws.
I have been told by the contract company that I will be dealing with (which is based in Ireland) that they can pay into any account in any currency and split accounts also.
My query is, upon leaving Australia I will be declaring non residency for tax purposes, so all income I earn will be exempt from Australian tax. How much tax will I have to pay in Vietnam and how do I go about this. Also would it be wise to not have all my pay (just living costs and a touch more) go into a Vietnamese bank account (which I will open) due to getting it back out of the country a bit of a problem? And are you possibly only taxed on the amount of money that is put into the VN bank account?
Any info would be appreciated.
Cheers, Chris.

Does any one know where I could find a NGO database for Vietnam? Am interested in a complete-ish, up to date-ish list of all NGOs working in Vietnam, their mission / vision, and their actual projects / activities.
I know the VUFO- NGO resource centre has a list, however it's just for INGOs that are members, so it's very partial (only around 140 organisations, I understand).
I'd like all NGOs, including local ones.
I suspect there might be some kind of government body with an NGo database (I think all NGOs have to register with some department), however I don't know which one it is, and whether I have any chance of accessing NGO information from them.
Suggestions for how I might locate this info gratefully received.

I've just been informed that some personal effects that my family sent out a few weeks ago have finally arrived in Haiphong. There are about eighteen boxes of books, CDs, cassettes, along with a small amount of household items of sentimental value. Problem is, now I've been told that they have to be 'inspected' by an official from the department of culture, and I may have to pay 'tax' to get it all in. I know I probably will, these things usually involve money being handed over in my experience, but I'd be interested in anyone elses experience in this area, especially as it could help someone else who is considering bringing stuff over in the near future. Over to you!

I've heard that in order for a Vietnamese medical insurance company to cover costs associated with motorbike licenses, the insured must have a Vietnamese driver's license. I'd like to know if this is true in anyone's experience.
I have VN medical insurance and planned to get a VN driver's license, but reading responses on here has got me thinking otherwise... the license process sounds like a paperwork nightmare on the level of applying for a work permit. I'd like to avoid it if possible but don't want to be uncovered for accidents.
Please reply if you know whether the above-mentioned rule is actually enforced. Thanks!!

Hi,
Does anyone know if foreigners are allowed to read in the National Library, and if yes, what is required for registration, if any?
Thanks in advance.

Hi,
Anyone out there been out and about shopping for visa extension quotes recently? Got one saturday from tropical tours for a six month multiple entry business visa, $135. What do you think, pricey or somewhere near the going rate. If the former, alternative suggestions would be much appreciated!

I'm currently owed close to VND10 million by a company based in HCMC, and I agreed to allow them to transfer the funds (in VND) into my domestic bank account.
I am with BIDV and I'm not sure which bank they use.
As of today, it's been well over 7 business days since they apparently ran the transfer, but no money yet.
Does anyone have any experiences with bank-to-bank transfers in the country? How long does it take?
Also, does anyone know why my funds had to be transferred through Chase Manhattan bank in NYC??

Is it possible to stay "forever" in VN on business visa, by just extending it? Or is there some laws around this? That you for example need to have a company or job, or smth like that?

Hi, I'm hoping to live in Hanoi for a year starting this October. I will not be working. Can I just live on a tourist visa? Or do you know about a student visa (I've heard it lasts for a year but I don't know how difficult it is to get one. I don't mind doing a course to learn Vietnamese, if that's what it takes, but I don't want to pay the earth for the privilege. Boring I know but I've trawled the web and am non the wiser. Hope you can enlighten me. Cheers - Mike.

Does one need a Vietnamese license to buy a motorbike in Vietnam? It seems possible to buy a motorbike w/o one, but we aren't really clear on the logistics of doing so -- can anyone enlighten us?

Someone today told me that there are brand new work permit rules, which makes working permit almost impossible to obtain and the same with business visa for more than 6 months if you don't have any extremely special skill or something like that. Anyone heard about this? I know it wasn't like this last year, so I didn't expect it to suddenly change. Anyone knows?

I am considering buying a brand new Honda Future Neo from a shop in my street, and, despite trying to get the information from the seller, couldn't really understand what the steps are in registering the motorbike and getting a license plate. Which papers are needed, and where should I go ?

Dear All
Looking to move to Vietnam in August 2007. For the work permit I need to have degrees etc translated into Vietnamese. I cannot do this locally before leaving as there is no-one capable in this part of the world.
If anyone has experience of this, could you please in simple steps explain the procedure for applying and could I arrive on say a multiple entry Visa and then have the translations done in Hanoi once I have arrived??
Any advice appreciated.
