Just to explain what I mean by that; a regular or "vanilla" atheist might say "I do not share your beliefs but I do respect them". Whereas a strong atheist will say "I do not share your beliefs and thats because they are utterly ridiculous and unworthy of my respect. In fact if you really believe in all that then perhaps you should see a doctor. Do you seriously expect me to show respect for such obvious infantile nonsense? You're joking, right?"
The gf has decided she wants to vacate VN for a week or so around the 4-day holiday at the end of April. There is NOT an unlimited budget, so price is very much a focus. Obviously, the girl wants cool shopping and, less obviously, the guy wants nature and museums. He immediately thought about Borneo, but it ruins the budget, so she jumped on the idea of KL. We are both burned out on Thailand. He thinks he'd love Laos but it ain't cheap. How about a few quick suggestions?
I would like to know whether would be possible to exchange English lessons for wood carving lessons in one of the artisan villages surrounding Hanoi? Or even just pay for the wood carving lessons. I know that this is a craft not easily mastered in a few months, but I would really like to give it a shot. Not sure how useful English lessons would be to craftsmen such as these, but possibly their kids??
Curious about a Reiki sign I saw at the Western Canned Food store awhile ago. It was there for months, but I only just went to check it out this week, and of course, it was gone! boo hoo. If you know this person that was advertising their services or anyone who practices in Hanoi, please let me know. Prefer English speaking person. Thanks, Steph dstephfuccio (at) yahoo.com www.travelgoddess.net
If a taxi driver found a purse in his car, and was honest -where would he take it?
Can anyone tell me if there are still macaques on Cat Ba island ? some friends are coming to visit the island esp. to glimpse the animals. Don't want to don a bad name to Vietnam if they are not there .... and found a better place in the hot pot. Cheers
Here's a thought. 20.10.2010 is coming up this year (10.20.2010 doesn't exist) and I'm wondering if in Asian Numerology etc. this date has any special meaning? To date, its been posited as International Statistics Day - which is interesting because what statistics reveal, like a bikini, is suggestive, but what they conceal is vital; however, I'd like to know if this date is considered lucky, unlucky, and what, if anything, people plan to do on this day. Does this day mean anything to you? D...
Hi – Does anyone know where I can get high-quality colour printing done? I’ve searched through old threads about printing but none of them seem to address my requirements. I need a small quantity of colour printing done on to good quality paper from a file I will provide. I’ve tried countless photocopy shops but the quality of the ink-jet printers they use is not good enough for my purposes. I’m looking for either colour laser printing or high resolution ink-jet printing. Thanks.
Serigraphy frame to make, where and who ? surely all the flags and tshirts made, someone must be doing them somewhere ... cheers
We took the Emotion boat for our cruise of Halong and Bai Tu Long Bays. Apart from the first-class amenities and great food, what impressed us about our boat was the very mystical "ritual" conducted after our early morning tai chi classes. A man (if I remember right, was Australian) had a ritual to "strengthen the inner energy" within each of us. He said that Ha Long Bay was a mystical place that had a lot of the energy of the universe. Because of this, he said it was the perfect place to re...
Hi, We are aware that adoptions from Vietnam to the US are currently suspended - but does anyone have any insights on Vietnam-to-Australia adoptions? Does anyone have any advice or guidance to offer on the procedures by which non-resident Australians (residing in Singapore) might go about adopting from Vietnam? Is there a government agency in Hanoi we should channel through, or do we need to try and approach orphanages directly? Any guidance much appreciated. Thanks, P & K
Football - 5-a-side or 11-a-side. (soccer to the Americans out there) Are there are expat leagues or teams currently running in Ha Noi? I'd love to join a team.......
Wanna ask if there are writing jobs here in Hanoi! Thanks!
Hey Everyone! Australian Electronic/Latin/NuJazz/Hiphop outfit 'Red Bantoo' are flying in to Hanoi on the 7th of May to perform at a festival on the 8th of May. They fly back to Australia on the 15th of May. We are bringing over a three-piece outfit that consists of live keys/synths, MPC/beats and a female jazz vocalist. Can anyone recommend some premier live music venues that host international live music? We could play a Sunday chill session, for example, on the 10th, as well as any ev...
Does anybody have opinions on where is the best place in terms of value for money quality to buy packets of tea in Hanoi?
I know that the numbering system of license plates in Vietnam is a code. For example, cars registered in Hanoi have the prefix numbers 29 through 32 on their plates and HCMC has prefix numbers 50 through 59; the letters identify the owner of the car: LD means a company owned vehicle; NG are diplomats; NN are NGOs or dutyfree, and even colors are important -- red plates are army and blue are police, but can anyone break it down further for me? Particularly, which areas of Hanoi correlate to 29,30...
A couple of days ago I was riding home along the Dyke road to Tay Ho when a local guy on a bike just in front of me lost control , dropped the bike and himself and went face first into the dyke wall. Just to make matters worse his bike collected another guy walking on the sidewalk. The driver’s helmet, a plastic replica of the WW11German Army style, was not done up so it sailed off him leaving his head totally unprotected. All this occurred in an instant. Against by better instincts I drove...
You know when you have a really awesome meal prepared by a great chef? The flavours and textures are many and complex, and you can't help but wonder 'how the hell did they make that?!' Do you know what I mean? I've been to Halia, Bobby Chinn's and a couple of high end eateries in 5 star hotels, and I have to say that while the food at these places was good, it wasn't as I describe above. It was the sort of stuff that a really good cook could whip up, but it wasn't the fare from a top-flight c...
