Hello all,
I'm in need of a physical/medical check up kind of thing and I'm wondering if anyone has a suggestion as to the best place to go. I apologize if this has been asked before, but I couldn't find any relevant information in past posts.
My concerns are price and facilities. I have insurance, but I have to pay up front and then get reimbursed. I also maybe need an x-ray. Maybe. I've yet to open door one of any hospitals in the city, so any advice would be much appreciated. Also, I'd rather pay a bit more for better facilities and personnel.
Currently, I only know about SOS International, but is there somewhere else that is recommended?

Check out the Vietnam-Korea Friendship Clinic. There's a listing on this site. It's at 12 Chu Van An (new building) and it has all the hospital facilities. It's cheap and the Korean and Vietnamese doctors speak English.

Hi, we have had a couple of check ups over the years and we have done it two ways: The first one is to go to the Family Practice on Kim Ma. Smaller, but cheaper than SOS. They have X ray facilities as well and if you are in need of anything else (like an MRI): they have access to those facilities and will arrange everything for you, including transport. All at reasonable prices. Our insurance has never made any problem with paying back the bills of the Family Practice. However, if you want to do it in a fun way, consider taking one of the totally cool physical check ups in Bangkok. We decided to do that once and regretted not having done that for our previous check ups. Flights to Bangkok are very cheap nowadays and the hospitals in Bangkok live for these kind of check ups and treatments. They have all kinds of programmes for you to choose from (from fairly simple medical check ups to The Works) and the costs are equal or even lower than in Hanoi. Plus the service is Great with a capital G. They have their logistics figured out and from the minute you walk in (you have to book it, but that can be done online), you will not have to think about anything because there will be a personal assistant taking you through the whole thing. We had great fun and enjoyed the shops and coffee outlets in the hospital while waiting for the results. Doctors speak english and they will produce beautiful reports for you to take home. Bumrungrad and Samitivej are the 2 hospitals that I have personal experience with and they are both very good. Bumgrungrad: www.bumrungrad.com Samitivej: www.samitivej.co.th You'll be done in a few hours and then you can choose to wait for the report (and the doctor to talk to you about it) or you can choose to come back the next day or even later that same day. I'll second Samitivej Hospital in Bangkok. When I was working in BKK I did all my medical stuff there. You gotta love the bling bling chandelier in the main entrance.

I'll third Samitivej. They have taken care of all medical issues for both me and my kids and the service as well as the medical expertise far surpasses Bumrungrad. I had my son at the latter and, in hindsight, would have prefered Samitijev. Anyway, since you have insurance, I recommend SOS. However, you don't wanna pay much upfront, so here's what I suggest : go to a local VN hospital and get an X ray done. Then take the images to SOS and have the doc there take a look. :)

I've had great experiences with Hanoi Family Medical on Kim Ma. They have always been very careful to not go over the top with unnecessary tests and scans etc; and they are completely frank and honest with their advice. I'd strongly recommend them for a top quality check up.
