You can it on Ba Trieu Street. You should go with a vietnamese frend who can help you in negotiating and chosing a good one.

Yep, Ba Trieu Street is the place, but you did mention "Durable and Lasting" which is not in the sales pitch for the bikes sold around there. If your a well built person, be prepared to spend some time repairing (strengthing) your bike, and if you are really intending on using it for it's "Mountain" biking purpose, think again. When i lived in the country side, those bikes fell to pieces at the sight of a dirt track.

Well thanks guys, i hope i find a bike that will be of good use to getting to India! *fingers crossed* i don't know much about fixing up bikes...but i got to learn. Are the bikes new or used? Can I find a bike thats not made in China there....from the sound of it, no, but they do have somewhat promising bikes, right?
Best go look for yourself, walked pasted there sometime back and most were still Chinese made from the quick look. Also it seems your not the biking type, i use to do a little in my younger days. Don't be impressed by all the shocks (dampers) they stick on the bikes these days, these are only any use on better made bikes, made for mountain biking. For riding to India, get a sturdy bike, comfortable riding position, easy maintainable as all your problems will have to be done by road side vendors and yourself.

Several of the bike vendors on Ba Trieu Street sell used, refurbished Japanese bikes. And there is one shop that sometimes has used Japanese mountain bikes in stock or can order them. I don't remember the exact address, but it's easy enough to find; on the right side of Ba Trieu street just before the French Embassy. Run by friendly old man who only speaks Vietnamese and German.
you can buy it in MeLinh Plaza. In there you can know exactly where it is made. It's good quality. You also do not have to worry about coppy product.
