Quick phone help in Vietnamese needed

The same people that I dont know are calling me a few times a week from a 06---- number. Its really fun cause they say "hello" in English and then dive in Vietnamese. I say "hello" in English and than am stuck cause I dont speak Vietnamese. I thought after the first few days that they would understand when I started to speak in English that I dont understand or speak Vietnamese AND/OR that they had the wrong number. They obviously have not. So, in an attempt to get my uninterupted mornings back (they calll really early) I was wondering if anyone can help by calling them and either finding out why they are calling me or just politely asking them to stop. Thanks in advance, Steph

Good luck! I've had the same woman calling my mobile for Anh Dung for 4 years! She's still not realised that a) I'm not an Anh, and b) I am not Vietnamese.

Explaining to her in Vietnamese that she has the wrong number doesn't help at all. Yelling at her in English and turning the phone off when she called 4 times at 7am on a Sunday morning worked for a couple of weeks.

Yelling really loudly seems to do the trick, I find. Either that or banging the phone on a table or something solid/loud. That also seems to shock some sense into people who can't work it our for themselves.

That is a classic, it actually amazes me how they can keep on calling a number that clearly the person answering is not the one you try to reach; and whom does not speak your language on top of that.

Yes the shouting works, or some mobile phones have the "blocking number" function, or you show up at your mobile provider's office and have them block the number or call that person themselves.

I did it once cause the guy kept on calling and shouting at me, so they threaten him to cut off his line and he stopped immediately. Done deal!

wow. well, before all these helpful and yes, hilarious replies, I got an offer for someone to help me by calling them in Vietnamese. Its been a few days and no calls yet. I am, however, not convinced its over, so have a hard surface ready for hitting. (already tried the yelling option.) The weirdest bit, though, is that I had this phone number most of last year and all of this year, so who the heck are they trying to call? The company is just north of HCMC, an area I have been to only once. Very odd. Very, very odd.

Anyway, thanks for your help!

If you want to be 100% sure that you are no longer be harassed, here is one trick:
Ask your Vietnamese Friend call the harasser from a table number, informing him/her that this number's owner has just won a prize from VNPT/mobile company for having made a one-millionth out coming call; and that you would like to get personal infor, name, address so that you can send the winer a gift through post-office.
After you get their infor, you can threat the harasser that you would call police if your friend receives any phone call from that person.

Wow.
All of these creative ideas make me wonder how often this happens to folks and more importantly why?!?!? Ugh. Thanks again.
