Taking money out of Vietnam the old-fashioned way.

I have another question to ask to you wonderful people. I'm leaving Vietnam very soon and I've saved some cash here. I know I can try and transfer the money through a bank or maybe Western Union, but what about taking it out physically through customs?? Does anyone know how much I can take out by hand? I've searched some websites and have come up with results like $5000 or $7000, so does anyone know how much it is??

It was $7000 with a Declaration Card and maybe more now, but some of my friends took more than that and the customs-officers never checked (however, that was another pair of shoes since they could always give the money back to their family-members).

These two websites can confirms what I said:

I just looked at my customs card in my passport, yeah its $7,000 US, with the next box being 15,000,000 Dong (so maybe you can do both - but I don't know how much use that much dong would be elsewhere) and 300 grams of gold, so that could also maybe be an option as well.

It is true, U can bring out of Vietnam less than 7000 usd in cash.

The limit is only for whom in business of money laundry.

I guess you mean money laundering and not laundry, (not that there's anything wrong giving your dosh a bit of a soak...)
